Dear Tillmacc:
I do not know if this will help you, but I am a type 2 Diabetic. My doctor said that my sugar is so good, at the weight I am at now, that if I would just lose my excess weight and regularly exercise, there is a very good chance I could get off my medication for it. He said I will always need to watch it, but that eating properly and exercising will be how I can manage it. ( note: once a Diabetic always a Diabetic.)My Sugar averages out between 89-130 before eating, I only test (2) times a day, down from three times a day. So if that's good, maybe I don't have to wait until I reach goal! I am now working for that time. Hope this helps.

No I do not mind. the answer to your questions:
(1). NO, I do not care for it. my weight is a by product of my emotions and the lack of regular exercise. no surgery will help my mind, to loss weight.
(2). Last A1c: I think it was 5.7 or 5.8
(3). I take Byetta 5mcg 2x a day( morning and evening before meals)and watch what I eat. May have to change med's. Insurance doesn't want to cover it, I can't afford it myself.( but for now that's it, for my Diabetes)
(4). My weight was 420, when I became a Diabetic, gained weight up to 450
(2000-2004 year)Tail end of 2004(Oct) till 2008 I lost 129 lbs (Oct) from that time until Nov. of 2008, I gained four pounds, and that's were I am stuck. I have been here for the last (6) months. I think/ no I know, I need to work harder, she is not moving any more, on what I am doing now.
(5). See question (4) Started losing in Nov. of 2004 until my stale mate 2009 (April)
(125 lbs in 4 years and 5 months that's just under a pound a week.) To Slow!
You know something tillmacc: Thank-you for having me figure this out. I think I understand what my doctor has been trying, to get me, to see. I need to step up my game plan. It has been to long coming, the finish line.
I hope this helps, what are you looking for?

That is still a great accomplishment (over 28% of your highest body weight) and you should be proud of that.
I was looking for someone who has come off their meds and stayed off with no recurrence of diabetes and without WLS. I am planning to have RNY this fall or no later than January but I am concerned about my insurance not covering my surgery when my BMI falls below 35 (20 lbs from now). I want to know if there really is hope of coming off all diabetes meds without surgery.
Now, back to you.
Your #3 refers to Byetta and its cost. I have a suggestion. Ask your PCP if switching to metformin is an option for you. It is much cheaper (on the $4 /$10 generics list at Walmart).
You also mentioned a stall. Below is a link to another OH member's blog and discussion about breaking a stall. Maybe you can try some of her suggestions. I am working through one right now and am going to make some of the changes she suggested.
Thank you for answering my questions and keep me posted on your progress.

Dear Tillmacc:
Just a quick reply, Regarding: Metformin, I have tried it, unfortunately I am one of those people , that do not tolerate most of the medicines out there. Since everyone is trying to make more economical products, the cheaper base ingredients, i am finding i am allergic to, or they make my Asthma real bad. So I can't take it or shouldn't.
(Lactose: How many people are Lactose intolerant also, guess what, just read the base ingredients on your medicine pamphlet.)
Regarding getting off Diabetes medicine through dieting/RNY: I do not know anything of RNY, or even what that is, but I have read some reports, that with proper nutrition,
Exercise, cutting salt, and fat consumption, most people can get off their med.'s (just look at me, my doctors tell me, that all the time.)
I too would like to, hear from you, and let me know how you are doing also.
