What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud? What Kind of a Loser Are You?
Quick cleaning tip before I go any further. I have a sponge mop that I use only for the shower/tub with Ajax (no scratching). It scrubs the tub and no bending or kneeling required. What the shower head doesn't rinse off, I use a pitcher to get the rest.
Well that's pretty impressive weight loss for being over the holidays and not being too strict. You should be proud! Being able to stand on my feet for hours without them hurting was one of the biggest bonuses of weight loss for me. Mine used to kill me just to walk at all. Being more active just keeps getting better and better!

Mary:
What I have to be proud of today, is by the time I get to bed tonight, I will have another 2,000. steps on my pedometer. I have been averaging about 2,000 a day(not bad for a couch potato) that is equal to 1 mile a day. Next week I will increase it.
Regarding how fast one can lose in a month: I have been told, and some experience, It's better to lose your extra weight when you are young, because the older you get the harder it gets.(the body slows down a lot in the golden years.) You tend to lose faster when you are real heavy compared to when you are more slender.(takes more exercise when your thin). You need to burn more then your taking in.
For myself when I was in my 20's the best I could do was about 12 lbs a month, and it pretty much stayed that way, until about my 50's I do not know what happened but I started losing about 12-20 lbs a month. Now at the tail end of my 50's I am not losing anything. I have been maintaining for the last 5-6 months( BA hum bug) the bad news is I am not losing, the good news is I didn't gain. Now the exercising has to be stepped up, and now that winter is gone away for the most part, it will be easier.
Oh! before I forget, you may know this already, but to lose a lb of fat it takes 3,500.00 calories burned. So, 30 lbs X 3,500.00 = 105,000. calories to burn off in that month.
What I do is use this formula I got form one of my doctors: Take your weight and divide it by 150. that will equal a rate to be multiplied by a number on this sheet I have for different excesses. EX:
my exercise rate right now is 2.17 X that with (1) mile of walking which is 100, so for every mile of walking I do I lose or burn up 217 calories.
For dancing Is 300 slow, 350 fast, per hour, times your rate,
For swimming is 400-600.
Now for swimming I can burn a lot, that's 2,17 X 500(average)= 1,085. calories burned, per mile of swimming. Cool !!!
Well by this Saturday morning I should have burned 1,085 cal. for the week minim, for 10,000 steps. that's something to feel good about.
Thanks for helping me work that out, I don't feel so bad. all is not lost.
That's my 2 cents into the mix. Twilight
You know, that's something very important that we don't give ourselves enough credit for. We may not have lost anything, but at least we haven't gained. Sometimes when we are hanging on to this journey by the skin of our teeth, not gaining is HUGE!
Yep, now that Spring is here, you can really amp up the number of your steps.

The big point I always try to make when leading my support group is that it's a whole lot easier to lose the weight when you are young than to wait until you are older when it becomes really hard. Of course the big message is to never become overweight at all but unfortunately those are not the ones who show up at these meetings

So you've been through menopause, and you can lose more weight a month than Neecee. Good Lawd, don't tell HER that!
