 Hi guys~
what cha all up to? I got a job at the school district working as a cafeteria worker for a junior high,I started last week,  my shifts are only two hours a day which is perfect for me, cause I want to be home with my kids, I have to tell you it is like working in a fast food restaurant! the food we serve these kids on a daily basis makes me cringe! no wonder obesity i****ting younger and younger victims! and they come up to me and seriously order, they have like 4-5 options which consist of Pizza and fries, burrito and fries, orange chicken and fries, spicy chicken sandwhich and fries, or the monthly special which this month is like a chicken finger wrapped in a white flour tortilla and served with, you guessed it Fries! and they all get chocolate milk, we have white mile but 0-2 kids a day ask for the white milk and we also offer 1 fruit or 1 veggie (like bagged carrots) and out of the 200 + kids I serve a day 10 or less take the fruit or veggie, so sad really!  and all of my co-workers eat this food too! and offer it to me pretty much everyday, I always decline, which sometimes is hard to do when Im really hungry, but then when I think about what it is and how nutritionally bankrupt it is, it's not really that hard to decline! I am making my kids lunch from now on!

hey chelle...no salad bar even??? that is very odd in Cali schools! Most of the size San berdoo is msut have healthy options????

I can beleive the stuff you describe is what the kids want, but seriously, no other choices?

 Neecee~
I stand corrected, I explored the Nacho bar today and low and behold there was a salad section! I was talking to my co-worker who runs it and she said only about two kids a day or so get salad, but today I offered Fruit or Vegetable to a lot more kids, had a few takers, not many but a few!

well outside from the cafeteria there is a Nacho bar, I dont believe their is any salad on it though, and then out side, their is a BBQ where they can order hot dogs and hamburgers, then in the back of the lunch room their is a slushi counter! seriously, their idea of "healthy" options is Baked hot chitos and baked chip's then we also sell, seperatly (not included with the meal) granola bars, fruit leather (which I have yet to sell one of) power aid, water, (sold one of those)  peanuts, sunflower seeds,cookies etc... I guess they think they are suppling "healthier" options because they no long Fry the fries but bake them, and serve the "baked" chip line,  a fruit and a veggie comes with every meal but  it's in a basket where the kids can choose to grab it or not, like I said most of them choose to not! I think I will start saying to the kids who dont grab one "dont forget your fruit or vegtable!"

That is just plain ol sad that these kids are subjected to so much trash.  The really sad thing is that eating the healthy food isn't ingrained into their heads from the time they learn to eat!  The way my nephew raised his little girl was to eat healthy and even when he is not around, if you ask her if she wants cake or a piece of fruit, she would rather have the fruit.  It makes sense that she is a little genius.  This is the one that was fitted for a violin at four years old! Buggin

Congratulations on your new job.
