Heather:
DON'T give up! Life is full of ups and downs and giving up will just make things more miserable. Think about this: how many times have ALL of us gotten away with eating a ton of food and mysteriously DIDN'T gain weight? I know I have. So keep that in mind - the scale isn't always going to go down (or even up when we pig out).
From personal experience, weighing every day is not good for me. I do monitor my weight though. I can tell when I've gained or lost - even a very small amount of weight - because I'm in touch with my body and how I feel and how my clothes fit. I rarely get on the scale and while I was losing, I probably weighed once or twice a week. The scale can make you crazy. I'm astounded at the number of people on this website who weigh themselves daily or even more often. To each his own but it doesn't work for me. I've plenty of other crap to obsess about ;-)
I don't know Donna but I don't think she intended to sound critical. Often the printed word is very hard to communicate in the right manner....but there's some truth to making yourself a priority at least some of the time. Just take small steps - measure your food for the meals you eat at home. Small changes will lead to bigger changes which will lead to success.
The most miserable and fat I've ever been was when I didn't take ANY time for myself. I was working 80-100 hours a week, eating once a day, never exercising, had no time for a social life, etc. Things changed when I started making myself a priority at least some of the time.
As far as a diet plan, follow a plan that works for you and that you can stay on long term.
Don't let a few pounds determine whether or not you'll succeed. You're already a success because you're working so hard to create a better life for you and your daughter.
Best wishes for continued success
Kim

Heather, I'm not trying to be vicious. I really wanted to help you. I'm sorry if I came across wrong. I won't comment any further. I wish you luck in all your pursuits.

I'm sorry, too. I didn't mean to be so sensitive about things, and to sound so witchy with a capitol 'B'. I get really defensive over things sometimes, and didn't mean to take anything out on you. I do appreciate any and all advice.

Heather....I'm sorry the doctor's scale didn't show a loss after you've been working hard at it all week.....nothing more disappointing. I don't know squat about Atkins (could never limit myself like that) but I'm sure a lot of your problem is the added sodium you've been consuming. Switch you drinking jus****er....get one of those big ole water bottles and carry it with you everywhere! Also, a great snack (cheap, convenient, quick) is hard boiled eggs. Boil up a dozen of them and keep them handy to pop in zip loc bags and take with you on the go. I find that protein satisfies me the most when I'm hungry.
Sounds like you have a plan for next week. If you like chicken or turkey, buy them (whole) when they're on sale and roast and do individual portions in zip loc bags and freeze them. You can grab one of those frozen and take with you and have it thawed and handy (and way less sodium than buying cold cuts) for handy snacks too.
You'll do it....hang in there, Heather! I'm proud of you for not getting discouraged and throwing in the towel!!!

Heather I sort of know how you feel. I too am a full time student, I'm taking 8 classes plus i'm working part time, and I am married with three pets. (They are my children) Most days I leave the house by 6:30 and get home around 11. Then there is homework and taking care of the house etc. It can be very hard to balance everything, that's why I haven't been posting on the boards, But as long as we don't give up eventually we will triumph! I have good days and I have bad, lately they have been breaking even, no gain and no loss... But we must keep trying. I know you can do it!
Girl, take a breath! The scale can be like that at times. Just buck up and keep on!
I also want to say as kindly as is possible: that "just give up" syndrome will NOT serve you well. (I know, i say it too, and feel this way too) It has let you down how many times now? It lets me down...and I have come to realize it is: a.cop.out. Nothing more, nothing less.
Please please just slow down and hang on.

I don't think so, but my body's so out of whack, who knows? I've been having female problems, and the doctor has me on progesterone to try and get it back on track. I'm not 'supposed' to have it for another 2 weeks, but? I guess that is a possibility, Thanks!
I'm going to put in my "two cents", for all they're worth. I can't follow any regular diet, Atkins or otherwise. I'm "dieted" out. I belong to OA and I take life one day at a time. If I can follow my food plan (moderate portions of healthy food) and stay away from eating junk food, bingeing, and avoiding compulsive overeating, then I'm going great, for that day. Being busy is a hard thing to cope with, while trying to lose weight. I'm not nearly as busy as you are, and sometimes, I just don't feel like cooking in the evening. I get free frozen meals with a starch, a vegetable, a fruit, and a protein from one of my clients, who often doesn't use them all, and would throw them away if I didn't take them. This saves us money, and the portions are so moderate, that I don't worry about weighing and measuring with those. This week, I added cottage cheese and salads, something I formally only thought of as "diet food". I've changed my mind about these foods, thanks to my therapist, who eats these foods all the time and doesn't feel deprived at all.
Since you've already lost alot of weight, I commend you on that. I only weigh myself once a month, otherwise, I get terribly obsessed with my weight and my eating. Sometimes, I even forget how much I weigh by doing it only once a month. I've been losing slowly, which works fine for me. Instead of trying to lose weight as fast as possible by going on a weight loss diet, I've been eating the way I'll be eating when I'm thin. The loss may be slow, but it's so much easier on me emotionally, and physically. I'm not sure fast weight loss is all that healthy a way to go. I suspect that there is some element of starvation going on if someone is losing weight fast. This is just my opinion, for all it's worth. I've been on 20 - 25 diets my entire adult life, and I've run out of "willpower" to go on any more. I've tried Weigh****chers four separate times, and each time was worse than the last. I'm currently following my doctor's diabetes management food plan.
I generally avoid things like hot dogs, because they are so processed and full of fat and salt. Very occasionally, on special occasions, my husband and I will enjoy a couple chili dogs with cheese. I never buy hot dogs, and bologna (which my husband hates) was a binge food for me at one time, so I avoid buying that, as well.
Good luck to you, whatever diet or food plan you follow. Perhaps a little prayer to your Higher Power is appropriate here, just to help keep you on track. Take care.
