Quote of the day from The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck, PhD:

Sticking to your food plan while eating out or celebrating is a skill that requires preparation and practice.

Dining out strategies
- Tell the server how you'd like your food prepared.
- Order smaller portions.
- If you're eating at a buffet, look at all food options before filling your plate (or better yet, avoid buffets!).
- Practice what you know.
- When you're finished eating, make it final.

Change your mindset about parties, celebrations, special events
- You're likely to encounter special cir****tances repeatedly.  If you give yourself permission to make exceptions, you could easily overeat at all of them.
- You might go overboard in making exceptions.
- You might find it difficult to return to restricted eating once the event is over (might lead to sabotaging thoughts).

Have a great weekend,
Kim

I have a party to go to tomorrow, so this is especially useful for me!! Its a party for one of my friends daughters, but she's inviting alot of kids and parents, and having a lot of food...none of it healthy. I don't want to eat off plan, I'm doing good! Not going to the party isn't an option, I'm planning on eating before I go, but I'm afraid that I'll give in to temptation. I'm going to try and keep in my head how good I've been doing, and that weigh day is Monday, don't want to mess up now!!

Good for you, Heather for having a plan!  I think eating ahead of time is a wonderful idea.  That way while everyone else is snacking on that tempting food, you can be helping out with the party...serving, helping with kids etc and nobody will even notice you're not eating.  If it's appropriate to bring something, bring along a plate of raw veggies that you can snack on.  Always keep a glass of water in your hand.  You will feel soooo proud of yourself tomorrow night for not sabotaging your efforts.

I am facing one of those outings tonight myself.  Going out with friends to an Italian steakhouse for dinner....not a lot of healthy options.  I have already reviewed their menu online and chosen to have filet mignon with steamed broccoli and have figured the calories into my allotment for the day.  We always share an antipasto salad and I will just have the greens and oil & vinegar and forego the yummy salami, cappicola, cheeses, Italian bread and butter etc.  I may go to the high end of what I'm allowing myself calorie wise but feel it's good to mix it up a little anyway.  And I know I will really be proud of myself for not giving in to temptation and saying..."Oh, I'll splurge tonight and get back on track tomorrow".  Tomorrow never seems to come for me!!

(Good thing my SO doesn't mind spending $$$ on dinners out....filet is kind of pricey and this restaurant charges $2.59 extra for substituting steamed broccoli for the garlic mashed potatoes or pasta side dish options)

Thank you, and good for you too Sherrie!! Let me know how it goes at dinner tonight, Be strong!! I don't think I could go to anyplace Italian until I feel stronger in about myself...I can't resist fresh bread and pasta! (but with time, I will!!) Have fun, the food you've chosen sounds so yummy, I don't think you'll miss anything else!!
