Why I Love/Hate Biggest Loser

I just got through watching the Biggest Loser and I now officially hate this show!!!  All of the contestants win immunity if Mike loses ten pounds...no pressure right?  Well they put him on the scale, and now they aren't going to show his weight loss UNTIL NEXT WEEK!

Pissed I demand that some one tell me how much he lost NOW!  This is unheard of.  This is unprecedented.  This is wrong on all levels known to man.  How can they do this me...a loyol addicted fan of this piece of crap show.  I protest!

On the other hand, CoolSugar Ray Leonard was working out with the blue team and he said something that I absolutely love.  He said that they need to train to lose and workout like athletes.  This journey requires complete focus and you have got to have tunnel vision.  I know that when I was losing, I had one goal, to have a breast reduction.  That was my complete motivation and I was desperate.  Desperation worked very well for me.  I kind of miss that.  Sounds crazy I know, but for someone who doesn't particularly like to workout, I need more motivation.  So, what is your motivation and just how dedicated are you to it?

I just had to respond to this, probably because I just now got done watching it also and both my husband and I are mad they continued it til next week.BAHHH

I also had to sit and think of what Sugar Ray Leonard had to say. I loved the tunnel vision thought.

I like you had an ambition last time I lost weight.  After a while I started regularly working out and being the kind of person I am (caring for others more than myself) I thought of my niece.  At that time she was fourteen years old I think it was and had cervical cancer and was going through hell.  I kept thinking to myself, that this poor kid is going through all of this and what am I doing?  complaining about being over weight, when I can just not put that darn extra serving in my mouth.  It REALLY helped me focus on what was important in life.  I remember pushing myself HARD while working out, thinking that pushing myself harder was nothing in comparison to what she's going to be going through the rest of her life.  I pushed and pushed myself on that treadmill like never before just thinking of her pain compared to mine.

Yanno Holl, there are certain defining moments in our lives that can shake us to the core and make us realize just how precious breathing life on this planet can be.  No one is promised tomorrow, and yet some of us here ignore our weight status like it is something that will never affect our tomorrows.  How we act today...is our tomorrow.  What we put in our mouths today affects our quality of life tomorrow.  Not just for ourselves, but in what we will be able to offer others.

Thanks for sharing your story, because it reminds me of all of the misery and struggle I went through to get healthy, but that it was worth every piece of junk food I didn't put in my mouth.  Nutrition is life and we need to fight with everything within us to live like it matters!

I also liked watching sugar ray! that was cool, what was his accronim for POWER? I forgot now. and I think they continued it cause they have to space out how many shows they have left until the finally, when my husband and I were watching it last night they kept saying it's up to mike to keep everyone here its all on him and his 10 lb's, well that is not true, he just happened to be the last person to weigh in, it was up to everyone to lose their fair amount, not just him! I did not like how they were making it seem like it was ALL him! give him a break ya know he's just a kid! anyway thats my 2 cents, off to the Gym now to get my workout in! have a great one everybody!

Chelle, the acronym that Sugar Ray used for POWER was,

Prepare, Overcome, Win Every Round.

Who knew we were boxers? Boxing  I haven't always won EVERY round, but I've won the match!  Now I just need to work on making this championship belt fit for the rest of my life.  Unfortunately, this fight never ends.  Good grief! Running

Desperation works for you and negative input works for me.  When I was at my highest weight, I took a photo, enlarged it to an 8 x 10 and put it on the refrigerator door.  I hated that confrontation every time I went to the fridge.  I kept it there the whole time I was losing weight.  Still have it someplace.

Today, I work in a little different direction.  I  buy smaller "incentive" clothing.  I purposely buy a pair of jeans that will not fit and hang them on my closet door to see every time I get dressed.  It keeps me on my diet and on my program.  I always eventually get into those incentive clothes.

I am very focused on goals - always have been and always will be.  I plan and execute.  That said, things don't always go off according to plan but at least there is a plan.  There are lots of folks in all types of pursuits who just sorta thrash about with no plan - everything is just "willy nilly".....oh, well, another day lost, maybe tomorrow will be different.  In my business, I spend a lot of time in Europe and I run into American tourists on every trip who basically show up in a city like Rome or Paris with no clue about what to do or see or how to get from point A to point B.  How is that possible?  Spend a bundle on a trip and then land in one of the world's great cities and then just hang out at the hotel because you can't figure out what to do and see!   Nothing productive happens in life by accident.

Yo Babs, that incentive clothes idea is brilliant!  I can see where that would give you such a confidence boost to get into a pair of jeans that were too tight.  For some reason, when I was losing, I didn't think I deserved a lot of new clothes and I wore mine so baggy until DH gently suggested that I might want to think about retiring them.  I find it odd now that I don't like my clothes baggy!

That ignut tourist story is hilarious.  They weren't chunkee were they...poor planning usually runs into other aspects of your life, too.

Mary,  Dazed and confused tourists come in all kinds of varieties - chunkee isn't really the common denominator - perhaps a lack of common sense is.

Ya know, I can't bear to wear baggies any longer.  I wore them when I was big but on the way down, I bought smaller clothing at each step.  Today, I wear skinny jeans and own NOTHING with an elastic waist.  Tight clothing keeps me on my game - on the scale and o n my diet.  My college roommate was a model - and this was a million years ago  - but she told me that the key to staying rail thin is to always wear tight fitting clothing so you know when you gain an ounce.

Babs, I was in the shoe store Tuesday and I saw a girl who weighed over three hundred pounds wearing a pair of skin tight low rise jeans with mounds of flesh hanging over the belt.  I said a prayer for her and prayed not only that she would lose the weight, but that she would learn how to dress appropriately.

I'm not going to say there is a flaw in your theory, cuz that would definitely work for most "reasonable" folks like you and me.  But obviously, there are people in this world whose brains don't process the part where they've reached the "too tight" status! Rolly 3
