Quote of the day from The Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck, PhD:

It's destructive to continue to eat in an unplanned way for the rest of the day just because you ate something that wasn't on your food plan.

Some suggestions for getting back on plan:

1. Acknowledge your initial slip.

2. Recommit yourself to your food plan.

3. Draw a symbolic line (e.g., don't wait until tomorrow to get back on track; decide after your slip and mark the line by brushing your teeth, taking a walk, calling a friend, etc.)

4. Give yourself credit for stopping - at any point.

5. Watch out for feelings of failure and helplessness.

6. Continue to eat normally.

7.  Learn from your mistake.

Have a great Monday everyone,
Kim

Wow, Kim....that quote was meant for me today!!  I can actually say the "all or nothing at all" policy has contributed in a BIG way to my weight problems over the years.  I've always been the type that had to be ON PLAN and one bite of anything off plan led to feelings of shame and failure and the mentality of...."well, we'll start again tomorrow".  Do you know how many calories can be consumed between that point and "tomorrow"?  (if tomorrow ever came, that is)

I love these quotes and need to go buy myself this book.....need the baby steps of making positive choices and giving myself credit for these....making the positive choices add up to feelings of strength and control and eventually into new habits.

Thank you!

when I was on WW years ago the meeting leader said something that has always stuck with me all these years, she said when you slip off plan look at it like accidently dropping a raw egg on the floor, you dont look at it and say well I dropped one egg, might as well drop the rest of the carton! if you did then you would have a whole heck of a lot more mess to clean up than if it was just the one egg.Same thing with falling of plan, we want to "clean" up as little "mess" as possible!

Great post!

The egg drop imagery is a great way to put our "mess ups" in perspective.  Thanks for sharing!

Skinny?  Who are you talking to?  Size 4 is skinny, size 8 is pre-skinny.  At size 12 bottoms and size 14 tops, I'm still a thickella.  But a size smoothe thickella, so that puts me at goal!  Even though I can't lose anymore weight, with this menopause thing going on, I'm proud not to have GAINED any weight!

Thanks Skinny,

Mary
