Sometimes...This Is Just HARD

Just as a little update, I had a minor revision to my plastic surgery and a little lipo four weeks ago.  For the first two weeks after surgery, I wasn't on plan and I gained eight pounds.  I started back on my plan two weeks ago and the eight pounds is gone, but that was all weight from the swelling.  That's the good news.  What I wanna whine about is that ever since I've been back on plan, I have days that I am holding on to this wagon by my FINGERNAILS!  I don't understand why I am having such a hard time getting back in the groove.  I'm being a good girl, but there are times I feel like I'm one trip away from a banana cream pie.  I don't know, I'm just not feeling strong in my commitment at the moment.

I think it may have something to do with the fact that when I wake up in the morning, I look good, and by the afternoon I'm so bloated my clothes are too tight.  My head is telling me that I don't want to gain weight, but my cravings are saying, go ahead, you're going to blow up anyway.  OK, enough griping...I know everything will be allright, it's just that...Sometimes, This Is Just HARD!!!

Yep, it IS hard but you've come too far to stray off plan too much.  Besides, DT would kick your tight a$$!  Remember, you don't have to be perfect ALL the time.....just MOST of the time.

Well SugarButt, why do you think I'm holding on to this freakin' wagon by my fingernails...I'll be seeing Dr. Duct Tape Tuesday.  He's going to be looking at my face and I would just die if it was bloated from eatin' trash!

For some reason, having two weeks off has made it hard to go back to no sugar or starch.  But I'm so bloated when I eat that stuff that it's not worth it.  Ummm, I've had two weeks off, so I reckon that two weeks on ain't exactly MOST of the time! Blushy 2

Okay, this right here is what I'm afraid  for all of us in the future.  Do you REALLY know in your heart you will be able to always stay away from all the starchy foods?  I have been reading so much about this lately, and a lot of it isn't good.  But of course, they find pros and cons on EVERYTHING.  But now that I'm put in the spot of possibly taking away any starchy veggies, sweets, ect., I'm a little scared!  Do you EVER eat starchy foods while you are on plan??  Do you immediately gain from it?

What about you Jerz..you do it too unless you changed plans.

I guess on maintenance you get more room to play around with foods on which ever plan you have.  But do you always have such a hard time after you stray?

I hope these icky feelings go away FAST for you, cause that has to stink!!  Sorry Mary...didn't mean to change it around.  But this after all is a big topic, because there are many people here that are on Atkins or other low carb diets.  I pray you get your strength back to fight those little evil pie cravings!!

Hol, you are right to examine this. I told you guys about my atkins induction:  went great, really, for about 6 weeks....then

....I knew I would freakin snap if left alone with a bag of tortilla chips. Which is just about what happened.

Now, the true answer for most people is that we know we really are not going to leave out a whole food group the rest of our lives. So, for a while, yes, maybe a long while, you WILL - or should anyway, leave grains out.

It may be that someday you will be able to control the amounts, and maybe not. For Mary, it is easier and less stress to just not do it. (I'm assuming she has indeed strayed here and there but got back on her game ASAP?)

Holly, you have to remember that I have PCOS/Insulin Resistance and low carb and exercise is how you control it.  It took me six years to lose 129 pounds, doc cut off the rest, and I've been maintaining that for three years now.  But I always go off plan after plastics cuz of the meds I'm on.  For some reason, it's only been hard getting back on plan after this particular surgery.  I think it was because it was a minor surgery and I wasn't incapacitated and I was cooking up some pretty good meals.  But I'd rather feel good than eat a bunch of french fries or pizza.  Besides, I love baked sweet potatoes just as much and they are full of fiber.  And I don't see any difference between a low carb wrap than one made with starchy flour.  Stone ground flour is so much better for you and tastes great.

I knew in my heart that I was going to lose the weight come hell or high water, no matter what it took.  And no matter what some diets try to tell you, it took sheer willpower to walk away from the way I was eating.  But that way made me fat, so it required a total reversal for me to lose.  I know in my heart that I will NEVER weigh more than I do now.  That doesn't mean I won't ever eat a fine meal that includes flour and sugar, it's just that it will be a rare occassion.  I've changed my personal relationship with food over the course of the years, so for me, I don't feel deprived if I'm not allowing certain foods in my life.  Sugar ain't good for nothin.  But just cuz I'm wanting to eat pie, doesn't mean I'm going to eat pie.  I've got my big girl drawze on and I'm soldiered up.  And I'm done whining!

Why do you feel like you can't give up starchy vegetables?  The French have a saying.  "Potatoes are for pigs and corn is for cattle."  They use these things to fatten livestock...no wonder I was fat!

Must be in the air right now! My inner thoughts lately are:  w.t.f.  why am I knocking my brains out????  I was born to a short fat italian, that's where i am headed no matter what.

I cannot say it is exactly cravings for me, just tired.

Of course, we cannot afford to let go for too much more than like a week, right? Hang on, mary!!!!!

You nailed it Neecee, I'm tired of the struggle.  It was just so easy for those two weeks not to have to resist food, to plan meals, or not go to certain places to eat cuz they don't have anything on my plan.  Life was just easier.  But I've been good and lost my surgery weight in the last two weeks, I guess I was just mourning my time off!

Doing the right thing is hard, damnit!  When do we get to the easy part?  You don't have to answer that, I know the answer is NEVER!

Geeze Neece...short fat Italian, that's a crappy hand to be dealt!  You're doing great for the cards you were given, or should I say the genes?

Hi Mary,
Could this just be adjustment time?  You have had many procedures and always deal with the swelling and the head games it plays with you post op.  Lipo tends to make us swell more because our tissue hangs on to fluid during the healing process.  This is hard, but you are on plan again, so please give my friend a break!

Duct Tape will get over a little swelling.  Hang in there and don't forget to breathe...this will pass again.  Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

If it is any consolation, we all struggle from time to time, even us post-ops. I get tired of it, too!   I was recently hitting the upper end of my comfort zone, so it has been back to basics - high protein, increase exercise, etc., for me.  Maintenance sucks sometimes...lol.
