Going back to the docs
After talking with my hubby last night we both decided I needed more one on one with a doc. So I called my favorite weight loss doc and asked if we could do something else beside just their high protein foods. This is why I quit last time, because I couldn't afford the appointment PLUS all the things he requested me to do. So I'm excited, I get the doc I like, regular one on one visits every couple of weeks, and it won't cost me an arm and a leg! There is also an excercise specialist I think I'll be meeting up with after I get going.
So I have to choose between calorie counting or a high protein diet plan. The high protein diet plan sounds like it's a low fat plan and eliminates a lot of carbs except good ones. If I choose this one it will be foods off of a list that I can eat. So now I have until March 3rd to decide which one I want to do. I'm so indecisive, I'm sure it will take me until then to figure it out! :) I would love to hear all your thoughts on these two for me. Even though I know the pros and cons of both already, it is nice to see what people have to say. Someone might have a point of view that I'm not thinking about.
My chest has been having a lot of pains lately and it's been scaring me. Not sure if it's my health issues or what, but I really need to get some of this weight off of me. I'll be getting an EKG also there, so that will ease my mind a bit.
On Tuesday I will be doing lab work and also a body fat analysis. I haven't had one of those done in twenty years! Sort of excited about that, although depressing at the same time. lol
Hey Hol - Congrats on opening a new chapter.
Having just got off Atkin's, and now calorie counting, I know both plans well. As far as sticking to the plan, Atkin's was easier for me, because it was "Yes" or "No" foods. Simple, cut - yes or no. With calorie counting, you can technically have a little of ANYTHING, so your struggle is saying "enough" and that's something I have a very hard time with. You'll have to figure out which way would be easier for you; Yes/No foods, or portion control.
Either way, best of luck sweetiepants!!!
As for which plan you should be on, I would wait until you have your tests run and see what the results and the doctor have to say. You may pick one and your blood work may pick another, so it may not end up being up to you. You also need to discuss with your doc about your stomach issues that you get when you start a diet. I'll be interested to hear what he says about that.
You're getting a body fat analysis...I be so jealous!
Congratulations,
Mary

Congrats on taking this step! It definitely helps to find someone/something that you're comfortable with.
I don't have any advice for which plan would be best but my advice is to choose something you can do long term....like, the rest of your life! Of course you can always change plans midstream, or whenever, but to be successful in losing and keeping the weight off, you need to do something you can live with forever. I look forward to following your progress!
Best wishes to you,
Kim
Thanks for the replies.
Jerz- You mean 32 oz times the amount of ideal body weight?? I'm confused, because that would be tons. Ya might have to help me on this one.
Janina- There is pros and cons on both isn't there, that's what sucks.lol I hate desiding on the two, I really do. Maybe this is why I can't stick to noghint!ha I do have a serious problem of wanting to follow multiple ways of eating. And it gets me in trouble every time. I am literally addicted to it! That's one reason why I need help, I need someone to stay focused on and to help me stay that way. I literally research HOURS a day on this crap. It's getting pretty pathetic and I feel that its starting to turn into a serious porblem!
Mary- I can't wait unitl I get the tests back because he'll start me on one or another immeditaly and if something comes up in the lab he will adjust I'm assuming towards which way I chose to go. That's how it was last time anyway. But they did tell me I need to figure out pretty much which way I want to do it and then I can ask the doc more questions when I get there.
Jerz does have a goodd point, where I do want to find out how much protein I will be eating daily..or at least the average. I also want to find out if I will be able to have any starchy carbs ever. I'm not really sure how I'll feel on a diet without any kind of carbs at all AND low fat. I'm a little eery on these two parts, other than that I think I might go with the food list.
You will have carbs of course - just in the form of vegetables mostly. Low cal usually means potatoes 1x weekly anyway, plus very controlled grain portions.
You are not going to be turned loose on the kitchen with any food plan. So, if I were you just pick one and you can switch up later if you need to!
