Another Valentines Day post...

The Valentine day post made me think of what are we going to eat Saturday.  It's going to be full of chocolates and yummy goodies.  I know the store around the corner is selling cupcakes, cakes, and decorated cookies galore.  Not to mention the darn candy the kids are going to be bringing home again.  It's just like Halloween all over again!  There are so many candies out there that are actual Valentines day cards for them, and of course at least half of the kids will be buying those for exchange.  Us parents are going to have to deal with this once again!

I'm thinking since we are not going out for Valentines Day, to make a special dinner here at home.  I thought about tomorrow when I go to the store to buy a tacky ol' paper table cloth to put over the table (kids will love it), and make an exciting dinner by my favorite ol' antique candleabras.

What are you cooking or are you?  I need some good ideas other than the normal steak!  I'm also going to run to Costco's real fast and see if they have those gourmet strawberries this year.  They have had them the past two years and OMG they are beautiful strawberries!!  As you can tell we love our berries around here. :)

So watch cookin' or have any brilliant fun ideas for us others??

LAST YEAR ON VALENTINES DAY, I MADE MY KIDS HEART SHAPED PAN CAKES FOR BREAKFAST, THEY LOVED IT!! IM ALL FOR THE DINNER AT HOME, WE WERE THINKING OF THAT BUT THEN WE DECIDED TO GO OUT INSTEAD, BUT THE RED TABLE CLOTH EVEN THOUGH IT'S PAPER AND YOUR CANDLEABRA IS A GOOD IDEA, THE STRAWBERRIES SOUND DELIGHTFUL!! INFACT I MAY STEAL THA IDEA FROM YOU FOR OUR EVENING AT HOME, IM SURE IF YOU GOOGLE VALENTINE MENU IDEAS YOU MAY GET SOME GREAT IDEAS, AS FAR AS THE KIDS BRINGING HOME TONS OF JUNK, THIS IS HOW I LOOK AT IT, THEY HAVE THEIR PARTY AT SCHOOL AND THEY GET TO EAT WHAT EVER THEY WANT THEIR WE USUALLY PUT ALL THEIR TREATS OUT OF SIGHT, USUALLY ON TOP OF THE FRIDGE, THEN LITTLE BY LITTLW WE START THROWING IT AWAY, OUR DAUGHTER IS A SUGAR FIEND! SHE ASKED FOR TREATS ALL THE TIME, AND FUNNY THING IS SHE IS THE THINNEST OF MY 3 KIDS, BUT WE CONSISTANTLY TELL HER NO, I MEAN THEY ARE KIDS AND I DO WANT THEM TO HAVE A HEALTHY APPRECIATION OF WHAT A "TREAT" REALLY IS, AND IM TEACHING MY DAUGHTER (AND MYSELF) IT'S JUST THAT A TREAT NOT SOMETHING YOU NEED EVERYDAY, BUT ITS FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS. SO I DONT THINK I HAVE ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION AT ALL, I THINK I JUST SORT OF RAMBLED ON, BUT I GUESS MY SUGGESTING WOULD BE, FOR THE KID'S MAKE HEART SHAPED THINGS, FOR YOU AND YOUR HUBBY SOMETHING HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS!

Haha I love it, you rambled as good as I do!hehe

I like the heart pancake idea.  I might just do that Saturday morning, if I can figure out how to make that shape unless I find a cookie cutter or something at the store.  I bought some low carb mix, maybe I'll try a little bit of that for myself! :)

All I know so far is strawberries with whipped cream instead of using chocolate.  Think they will get a kick out of being able to scoop out their OWN whip cream out of thier own individual serving size cups of it.  Might sprinkle some cocao powder or something?? to make it a little more pretty.

My husband and I have been on a big pesto kick lately, so I'm thinking maybe pesto shrimp for starters.  I might maybe do an onion soup maybe?!?!? and some stuffed mushrooms.  Hmmmm..Maybe the kid grilled cheese hearts, to eat with the soup.  Sounds sort of good..pesto shrimp, stuffed mushrooms with onion soup (and garlic bread for hubby)!   and of course the heart grilled cheese for the kids. :)  With strawberries and whipped cream!  nummmmy

EDIT:  was just thinking about it, all that might be too rich with too much oil and cheese.  might be a little too much.  think i'll wait and see if anything else comes up.

thanks for the idea!

I think the heart shaped grilled cheese is a great idea, or any sandwich  heart shaped for that matter, when I did the pan cakes I think what I did was pour two dollops of batter close together and then before it started to cook I took a spatula and dragged some batter downward to make the "V" shape part of the heart, hope that helps

Cool, I didn't think of that and sounds like it might just work!
