dealing with doctors?

nope, I havn't mentioned anything about insulin resistance to my doctor, for some reason I figure that if she thinks its important for me to know, she'll tell me. She's a good doctor, but she can't read minds! I'm gonna ask her if my insulin levels have been tested with all the blood work she's ordered on me, and if not, if it can be done. It's been on here that I've been told that I'm *probably* insulin resistant.
Ohhh I see! I'm glad this issue has been brought up on here in the past few weeks. Back when I was posting regularly there wasn't anyone on here that knew anything about IR or alternative treatments. I'm really glad we have this tool to help give each other health tips.

hi, well, i'll update in pieces. just friends suggested it might be insulin resistance; i think it's just the common assumption if you are trying to lose weight and having a hard time. i am through with that dr regardless. i will try to find a naturopathic dr in the summer, after i have surgery on my nose. i happened to call for my lab results and they said they had tried to call (no msg, no missed calls) and had sent a letter saying that all my tests were normal except my cholesterol was too high, probaly from eating too many eggs and don't eat processed meat, that he could refer me to a nutritionist and see him in 8 weeks. so i called and asked a bunch of questions about my lab results and did not make an appt for 8 weeks and said just make sure that one for march 3 is out of the computer. 1) he didnt even test my free t3; 2) cholesterol was not even a fasting test and there was no breakdown of good, bad ratio; 3) i had already told him i quit eating processed meat back about august; 4) if myoverall diet isn't alot of cholesterol, a few eggs are not bad; 5) nary a nurse or dr mentioned asking if i was testing my sugar and keeping food diary as instructed, much less what were your results; 6) as far as i can tell, my pancreas producing insulin was not tested.
So. i am through with him and tried to be polite and just not reschedule. i have gone back to taking supplements that have iodine, cuz it seems that i have good days and bad days with the tsh things, no idea about the t3 or not. i just know i have to find a dr who understands this stuff and will listen.

Hi Junglebabe,
Wow, that doctor is some piece of work! Do you mind if I ask what city he is in? Some of us may want to steer clear of him! I’m really sorry you had such a bad experience. I think it’s unfair that patients don’t have much information about doctors when we are referred or when we pick someone off a list. I always feel so vulnerable when picking a new doctor because I never know if he is going to be a quack or not. I’ve fired a couple doctors in the past couple years myself. One was a orthopedic and one was a family medicine doc.
