Hello Everyone

I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Terri and I just turned 44 (yuck!).  I've been lurking a little and thought it was time to say "Hi".

Just a brief history...I've been overweight the majority of my life, going up and down the scale year after year.  Tried the majority of diets out there with fairly good success, but no success in keeping the weight off.  I finally decided that I wanted to have WLS, specifically the VSG, as I felt it would be best for me.  I jumped through all the hoops, did all the paperwork, tests, classes, etc. and was approved for the RNY (which I didn't want) in December.

I decided to give dieting and lifestyle changes one more try before going down the road of appealing for the VSG.  My DH and kids would prefer the diet & exercise to the surgery.

I just kind of screwed around with South Beach for the last month and then decided to join Weigh****chers.  Today was my first meeting.  The new Momentum program seems like it will be easier to follow.  I've done WW before, but hopefully I'll make it this time.

Anyway, I just wanted to say "HI" and hopefully you'll see me posting more.

Thanks for the welcome Beautiful Loser!  My WW leader is a little "odd" but entertaining nonetheless.  We only have a few meetings in my area and they are run by the same people, so I can't go to different meetings trying to find a leader that is a good fit for me.  So...I guess I'll be spending my time here.

How long have you been doing WW?

Hi Terry, welcome to the board.  Kimmie and I have a good friend who has had a RNY, and is now on the new Momentum program to lose the rest of her weight.  From what I get out of it, it's WW's low carb version, no?  She is doing extremely well with it and I wish the same for you.

Good for you to give diet and exercise another shot.  One thing I've learned from OH is that maintenance is hard whether you've had surgery or not.  Either way it's a lifelong commitment to keep the weight off...as I always say, maintenance sucks cuz this journey never ends!  If you can absorb that fact while you are losing, it makes it easier to maintain after the weight loss.

Come join our own special brand of insanity...it's fun and you might even learn something, too.

Hi Mary, thanks for the warm welcome.  The new Momentum program is just kind of combining the old Points and Core programs.  You still use points to count what you're eating, but you are urged to choose healthier options.  Instead of using all 30 daily points eating pizza and burgers, you are urged to eat sensibly, i.e. lean meats, veggies, fruit, whole grains, etc.

In reviewing the posts, I think I'm going to like it here.  I read your profile and you are definitely an inspiration!!!

Thanks for the explanation.  I've always wondered how 30 points of pizza and burgers could add up to nutrition, but it worked so I just kind of rolled with the flow.  Momentum sounds like the way I eat on low carb maintenance.  You should be skinny in no time!
