once again
This reminds me of what we talked about at a WW meeting a few weeks ago ... a term I fell in love with ;) that she called FLEXIBLE RESTRAINT. What that means is that you need to be flexible in your diet, eat what you want and what you like, but with moderation, i.e. within your points (or caloric intake). The idea behind this is that if you abstain from eating your favorite foods, eventually your resolve will crumble and you'll totally pig out on whatever it is you were not allowing yourself to eat. Its actually really hard to use that flexible restraint (for me anyway), its just hard to go from eating however much you want of whatever you want to small to moderate portions. It really hasnt been long at all since I've been on the plan, but so far its easy to stick to because I know I can work whatever I crave into my meal plan, or have an alternative that is just as satisfying.
Hey Neece, I think there are times when that old junky part of our brains takes over, and in that split second, it makes sense to us to indulge in one piece of decadence. But the consequence of indulgence is that the junky won, so we eat more, cuz the junky gained control. That's why we need that three second delay before we give in, so sanity and reason can kick in and whoop junky's butt!
The reason I asked her what she ate and why she ate it is because it is important to know what stimulates our very own triggers so we know how to react when those things are present. I could stare down apple pie all day, when it would trigger some to cave in. Apple pie is not one of my triggers. But let their be cake in the area and I'm on high alert to stay calm and in control of the situation so I don't become distracted for that split second!
