stability balls
I anchor my feet under the couch or on my hearth when I use mine. If I use it for that plank pose thing, i have to start with it backed against the couch, then put my feet up there, then move it away from the couch several inches.
DH and I have got it on up on that thing! yeah....it don't pop easy.
"The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd rather not." ~Mark Twain
Now, in what ways are you afraid of falling--sitting on the ball? There are a ton of things you can do with them, sitting, leaning, lifting, using it as a prop to lift weights, body resistance, etc.
As for the pop--make sure it's meant to carry your weight and be sure to fill up enough!
Don't be afraid of falling--you will in some instances, but you will learn from them. think of yourself as a baby...it's the only way to learn! What's the worst that can happen, anyway. It would be like slipping off a chair or bean bag : ) You can handle that.
Well I don't want to fall at all!lol I did make sure it can hold my weight. I wanted a nicer ball, but I ended up just getting a cheap one since I'm not sure if I'll like it. The weight goes up to 330 pounds, and I'm setting at about 290'ish right now. It came with a tape also to put around the ball to make sure it has the right amount of air in it, so it should be good to go. What could happen if it starts deflating and not enough air in it? Or anything?
Alright, I'll attempt it today. I got the nerve last night just to sit on the thing for a few minutes.lol Dh laid on it to help his back, and then turned around and just put his end calves on it and did "A" push up.lol I bought it basically for situps. Don't laugh at me, but I use to do my situps in bed but now we have this foam thing that is really thick and it doesn't work now. My body molds too fast in the bed now.lol I had surgery years ago right on my tail end and it still bothers me to this day when I do normal sit ups. So I'm trying to find something to help cushion my tushy!lol
The SB is a wonderful tool. Start with sitting bicep curls, overhead presses, kneeling tricep kickbacks, sitting or crouching crunches, bridges, etc . Get to know the SB ...and yourself!
Now, I started on an SB at 320...it didn't pop once!
Have I ever fallen? Oh yeah...recently my trainer had me doing single leg knee tucks (super advanced). And so you catch yourself from going splat, regroup, and start again. Don't be a big baby, Hol! : *
hahahaha, yea I am a big baby knowing I might fall on my face.lol Okay, Okay. Guess I'll have to have it in my head that I won't fall, like your trainer would say.
And hell no, I'm not starting out on nothing that advanced. My husband did one of those push ups because I mentioned I've seen it done and he wanted to see if he could do it without falling.lol I on the other hand are fine with beginning exercises. I'm determined to make this work for my crunches. I don't want to spend anymore money on anything else. Thanks for the website!
You know, that's been something I'm working on. How funny that as a kid, I would jump from a balcony, a full story and land and never once thought about the consequences (I could have broken a bone, but didn't). And yet I face such smaller fears myself.
So you're not alone. Just know that of all the fears, falling of a ball, come on, that's kind of funny. Now, last night I slipped on the ice and hurt my butt, but it was still funny. It's not like falling of a ball is going to really hurt you. It would stun you and **** you off, that's about it.
The whole don't fall--well, it's really about engaging your body to prevent failure, but you may at some point because ability is something you work up to.
Just keep telling your fear...so what....
