Do You Think Ruby Should Have WLS?
Dr. Andrea, you are brilliant! But of course we all knew that. I never would have thought about the psychological aspect of these people's opinions, but what you said makes perfect sense.
After I wrote this post, I did some reading about Ruby online and she says that she doesn't want weight loss surgery because she wants to show people that you can be successful at weight loss without it, and she wants to show them all of her struggles and all of her victories. I love that! Thanks for helping me make sense of this.

Hiya Andy! Always a pleasure to see ya!
I think that most people know it's *possible* to lose weight w/ no WLS...I think that it can seal the deal. Ruby is at an age where she does not have the time to gamble, that's my main premise to the yes. Ruby's body and soul is in crisis - no drama, real stuff.
No question Ruby has to stay in therapy - I'm with you guys to see that her food compulsions are very deep and surgery alone will not fix that. I must say that WLS could unravel her a little too fast...so for that very big consideration I am double glad she is doing what she is doing.
We know that statistically most people don't lose the conventional way, let alone keep it off. If we knew why we'd be so busy counting our millions to even argue about that.
I'm thinking that Ruby has indeed succeeded this w/o WLS...it feels like this show is not about her hands over her forehead in the "I give up" salute and now it's time to give into WLS. We all know this show is pre-recorded.
I very much appreciate that if this is the case, praise God and all Goodness to promote Ruby's journey without surgery.

i think that ruby is doing an excellent job so far.
she said something in the show yesterday. something about how every pound she loses brings her closer to the memories - the ones she doesn't have right now. i think for her, losing the weight this way works 100% better because she is taking the time to prepare mentally. alot of ppl who have surgery wake up 100lbs lighter with the same emotional issues that got them where they are. ruby knows that the emotional had to have something to do with why she got so big and she's doing everything she can to work thru them AS she loses weight. i think that gives her a much higher % chance of keeping it off than the norm.

THANK YOU! I can't tell you how many people I have talked to who had WLS who were skinny before they had dealt with their issues and were still addicted to food and were having a terrible time with regain. But Ruby's issues are so deep, I hope that she will be able to deal with her memories. I truly am frightened for her. But she's a fighter, so I think she should be able to deal.
I think that she is doing an excellent job so far, too.

I just started a woman on a journey to release 150 pounds. She's exceptionally motivated and excited. For her, surgery wasn't even mentioned. She is a busy Boeing employee who has "tried everything", and now she's going to follow hundreds of others into true success.
Ruby seems to have a deep desire to get this done, and she's got so much support. I'm connected to her on Facebook.
I believe that, since the body was created to be healthy in balance, she will find health once she's found balance. Balance isn't found in surgery, IMO.

I told her that I always keep everyones' stories secret until they want to go public. I'll have her get on here herself in a couple of weeks to update you guys if she's game! It's very exciting. I love success stories, too, and I get very emotional with every single one.
In other news - Sam is getting cuter every day. Didn't think that was possible.

He looks like one of our babies! We have a Sam, too - he is our youngest at 3 YO. That is a name near and dear - a beloved aunt used to call my brother Sam (his name was Steve, but there something jaunty and sweet about the name Sam!)
How lucky to see him every day! (((Ruth))))
