Well hopefully I won't get bit by the big dawgs on this issue, but this just shows you how different people are and what works for them.   I'm  no expert in the least, but I do know I have read and watched videos of firm believers of this way of life.  Doesn't claim it's wrong or right, just claims it works for THEM.  Sort of like Atkins vs Weigh****chers, one doesn't fit all.

I say whatever works for someone, more power to em'!  I'm all for someone being happy and healthy however they chose to do it.

I will throw one more sucker punch, 'specially for the newbs here. Not too long ago, we all talked about adrenal fatigue and since I have been reading up on it, I wonder if my body suffers from that. Google it if you want to discuss more - very interesting.

My point:  Fasting of any kind is not recommended for this condition.

Having said that, i purchased some of Ruth's cleansing drink - mainly cuz it is not truly a fast (from what I know about it) - there are some nutrients and cals and herbs, so that makes me feel better. I have used it the better part of a day, then my evening meal was a light veg soup.

I must say I woke up feeling fantastic, was a bit head-achy during the day of fast, but nothing to ***** about.

A spiritual fast should  be about prayer and thinking about God and not focusing on food for a period of time.  That makes sense to me, has been done for eons.

I've used the colon cleanse stuff.  It actually helped me to not feel bloated and yucky.  However, I didn't lose any weight. The product alone will do nothing for you. Couple it with a healthy diet and you'll see some success.  However, you'll have a hard time convincing me it was the cleanse that caused the loss.

On the other hand, this stuff helped loads (no pun intended) while I was experiencing lots of constipation during a brief hyperthyroid state.

I tried a colon cleanse once. Stuff was nasty. Never again!!! It caused no loss of weight, but it sure made me poop. They, whoever "they" are, do say we carry a lot of excess rotten stuff in our colon.

The colon cleanse I tried was made up of various herbs, plants, roots, berries etc.  Made me poop good and I was thankful for that, but otherwise useless. :)

Maybe I missed it, but can anyone point to studies showing the benefits of cleansing/fasting?  This isn't an area I really know anything about it.  I'm of the mind that the body is self-cleansing, but I'm open to the idea that there's something to fasting.  I don't think I could do it , though - I get mighty cranky and sometimes even dizzy if I so much as skip a meal (my blood sugar is great, btw).  If anything, I need to eat to get the poop moving!

Original goal: lose 53 lbs.  New goal: lose 68-78 lbs total.

yes, technically you are correct - no great benefit as the body, under normal cir****tances, is self cleansing.

That is where lots of the argument lies...it could be that some folks' bodies are not doing such a good job and need the help of herbs and such.

I am open to that, yet I share your concern about lots of people getting worse effects from not eating/drinking anything.

I do like  Ruth's product for that - there is some nutrition so that one does not have to feel weak and dizzy.

I also think once in a while we need to step out of the box and try new things.  who knows what product may be on the precipice of greatness!
