Losing weight on my own
Of course you are strong enough to do this. And telling yourself that each day will assist you in reaching your goal.
There are many women (and maybe a man or two) on this board who are doing it their way. My way is different than the others, but all are walking in what has brought them success.
The 'zone' books by Dr Barry Sears contain some of the best information available, IMO. Your goal is health, not a illusive number on a scale, right? The first thing to lose weight is your mind, and your body follows! Michael J Clouse says "Thought produces action, and action produces results."
I'd start by drinking 100 oz of purified water daily, and then find the eating routine that works for you.
Congratulations!
Ruth

WOW. i found someone that can relate to me YAY..!! i am definately adding you as a friend that way we can support each other!! but anyway, i started working out 9/5/08 and so far i lost 44 pounds. all i'm doing is basically i eat healthy and work out. i have 5 meals a day. for bf i have carbs and protein then 2.5-3 hrs later i eat a snack ... like an apple... then i have my lunch (vegetables and protein) then another snack (protein) and then i finally have my dinner (vegetables and protein again). i work out every other day and that's about it. it does take a lot of dedication but it's not that hard. well for me anyway. i guess i'm used to it now.

Hi Niecy. I saw your post on the RNY board, and I followed you over to here. I am so proud of you for coming to the decision you have. I'm just about there as well.
I got "pre-approved" for the bariatric surgery program through my insurance, and have been on a mission to lose 5% since October. I have GAINED weight! I read OH regularly (spend too much time here, HAH) and I'm definitely having second thoughts and I almost think I'm unconsciously gaining on purpose so I WON'T qualify and be referred to the surgical center.
I'm a lifetime yo-yo dieter, but oh MAN, if I get my guts rearranged, I will have to be more disciplined than I've ever been able to be.
I'm just not sure. I'm fat, but I'm relatively healthy. I can be a lot healthier by losing 40-50 lbs and exercising regularly. Being a normal BMI just isn't that appealing anymore since I've started reading all the stories.
I'll be happy at a size 14...which for me is about 200 lbs.
I think I'll hang out on this board for awhile.

Hi, Niecey!
I considered GBS for a long time and kept pushing back my deadline -- long story short, I never did it. It took me almost four years to lose the weight but I have no regrets. The entire sordid story is at my personal site, www dot officiallydes dot com.
Good luck!
