The Atkins Police

For all my peeps out there on Atkins, and by the way, I love you all dearly, so don't take this personally, but some of you are soooooooo in trouble with the Atkins Police Department! Sheriff I'm reading about what some of you folks are puttin' in your mouths and you are getting citations for "Eating Off of the List".  This is the list.  If you are eating anything not on it, you will slow down your weight loss.  For some reason these links are not going through because this site has seen fit to add question marks. Hmmm

http://www.atkins.com/Program/FourPhases/WhatIsInduction/Acc eptableFoodsList.aspx

Atkins is a formula diet and the first two weeks of Induction is designed to put your body in a state of Ketosis.  It is NOT a low carb diet that you count carbs up to twenty and call that Atkins.  Yes, you will lose eating that way, but not as much as if you would have followed the Induction rules.  But later, your weight loss will really slow down.

Here are a few of the violations I have seen.  Low fat anything is forbidden because it is processed to death and when they take the fat out, they put sugar in, even if it says sugar free.

http://www.atkins.com/Science/UnderstandingNutritionAndActiv ity/LowSugar.aspx

These are the hidden sugars, and it is IMPERATIVE that you read the labels!  Not just the carb counts.  After Induction, if one of these things is listed waaaaay down on the list of ingredients, then it probably won't raise your sugar level, but that's later.

Things not on the list.  Carrots, peanut butter or peanut butter spread(full of sugar), hot chocolate packets.  Sherrie heats up Atkins shakes and it's delicious.  And be careful eating out, cuz you just don't know what is lurking.  And lastly, salad dressings.  One serving is two level tablespoons.  Make sure you get your dressing on the side if you are eating out.  Better yet, use vingegar and olive oil, you KNOW the exact ingredients in that and olive oil is great for your heart. Cool

Now don't make me have to come gunnin' for ya! Trigger Happy       But seriously, I don't want you to not be aware of what you could be doing better.  A lot of people say they did Atkins and it didn't work.  Atkins works if you follow the rules and know the plan and be careful of "what ya puttin' in ya mouth!!!"

Love Ya'll,

Thanks Mary
I have not started the official Atkins induction. I did okay on a low carb program but definately slowed down just as you say.  I'm thinking I want to give it my all and need to be really clear in my head what's on the list and what's not. You certainly know what works. I appreciate your support on this site and all you experince helps those of us that need that input.
I use ground peanuts for peanut butter - so I would guess that is the same as just peanuts, Right? They aren't on the induction list that I can see, but they only have 3.8 net carbs so I hope I can add them in after induction?

Yanno Jan, when I posted this, I was hoping that people wouldn't take it the wrong way and think that I was trying to boss them.  Thanks for accepting it in the way it was intended.  Except for Janina and Heather...I can boss them!   Tongue Out 2

I've done just regular low carb, too, and my point of view is that if you are going to be on a low carb diet, why not go a little lower and get more weight loss for your effort.

Ooh, I can't wait to see how you do when you get going on Atkins.  We're here for ya if you need us.

Jan, this to me is where Atkins can get a little schitzo.  In the original books, peanuts were not allowed.  But after Dr. Atkins passed away, Atkins started putting peanuts in their products.  Granted it's only like a tablespoon per product, but they are still in there and they are allowed on Induction, even though peanuts are not. I Dunno Maybe you should wait until the Ongoing Weight Loss phase and see if you could add it in then.  If you eat it and you are still losing weight, then they aren't raising your blood sugar levels enough to bother your weight loss.  Sorry I don't have a better answer,

Hey.. I'm not getting in the path of THAT whip for at least a few more days..........  The Irishman left some colorful reminders on my biceps that are still fading!  Oh Ps.. Irishman a done deal.. moving right along....................  His OTHER girlfriend (uh huh) approached me (surprise)...  very torn up - so...........  as tough as this one was to let go.............  I backed away gracefully.    Well.. I did enjoy it while it lasted, but in all good conscience - I couldn't continue.  Yanno.. it's gotta be "ho's before bro's" at all times.  I wouldn't expect the same kind of consideration from someone else.. but as long as I take the high road (even when I don't want to), I can sleep much more easily. :(

I must say that at 325 lbs.. life was more hassle free with respect to relationships.  LOL  The men who wanted me, no one else wanted!  LMAO

I shall take this opportunity to restudy what you have posted and get back on my original do.  My weight is holding at 212 and maybe it's deviations (although I don't believe in them) that has been holding me back.  Oh to lose as I did in the honeymoon period of induction would taste like sweet victory.

Well this just sucks all to Hell cuz I liked him, too!  Even though I didn't know him, he seemed cool...although two women at one time...notso much.  But you know what, even when this kind of craziness happens, at least it's happening.  It means you are putting yourself out there to say to the world, here I am, ready to live my life instead of just existing.  Even though pain is a part of that process, 'feeling pain' is one of the things that let's us know we're ALIVE.  Like Sherrie said, she had to kiss a lot of frogs, yanno?

The honeymoon period of Induction...wasn't that such a sweet time in our lives? Love YouReality is such a raw deal!  It is hard when the weight loss slows down and you think the plan isn't working right, even though it is.  Good news is that by the time it happened, you had already lost a ton of weight.  I say it's easier to be aggravated with a diet when you've lost a hundred pounds, no?
