A non-excersie, excersie
on 12/6/08 6:56 am - MI
(1) Sit in a chair, shoulders back, comfortably, feet on the floor. resting arms on the arms of the chair. Take a deep breath in, as you take that breath in, draw your abdominal muscles in, ( the belly button up and back toward the spine.) hold your muscles, for a count of 5, as you are doing that breath out. At the end of the count of 5 release. Repeat again as many times as you can do safely. One of these movements are equal to one sit up. (note: can breath more, just hold in the abdominal for the count of 5.)
You can do almost any exercise everyone else is doing, either standing, sitting in a chair and yes even in bed.(being used as the bed's in physical therapy.) you will be surprised how toned you can become, how much stronger it makes you. Need to have weights?, Take (2) 20oz pop bottles, fill with water presto change o you have a 1.4 lb weight for each hand.
I look for exercises that will keep me off the floor, still too heavy, I can get down, just can't get up, the knee's scream bloody murder.
Any Ideas? I just started using a pedometer. Didn't realize how much walking I do around the house cooking and cleaning and up and down stairs for the laundry ( don't do stair very well either, still working on them.) and tossing in shopping wow! do the steps go up.
Well I think that's enough for now, I will keep talking if I don't end it. so, for now I bid everyone a good evening: Twilight
One thing that you could add to this non sit up is to add an isometric component. Flex your butt muscles while you are holding for the count of five, also. Matter of fact, you can flex them sitting anywhere doing anything...like watching a movie. Works like a charm!

Mary:
I do, do isometrics when I chair exercise. I can almost use most of my muscles. I like isometric movements. What I try to do, instead of just sitting in front of the T.V. I move anyway I can.
I do leg lifts, rotate my ankles, I push down on the floor with my legs, then keeping them flexed I raise them up. flexing my top and back thigh muscles. I put my legs together and squeeze, then relax, repeating 20-40 times. I do my non-sit-up's 20-30 times, I sit up arching my back, sticking my chest out, then relax about 10X, I bend side to side stretching my arms over my head( one side at a time) I have about (6) different arm movements that exercise all around my arm( even those mud flaps i call my underarm.) I also have some movements for my neck and face.
I did learn something, when I was last in physical therapy: People with small butts, have large abdomens (belly's, (that's me)) and people with small abdomens, will have large butt's. I find that interesting. Along with this I have exercises I do standing, and when using my bed for a raised mat off the floor, I have some for that too. I dance freestyle as long as my ankles don't give out.
Thank-you for your suggestion and replying to my post. It is good to have someone to talk to, and to have someone who will listen to what I have to say.

So whatcha sayin', you don't have much in the toosh department? Just keep flexing that behind!
What is it about this forum that we discuss our butts so much? Stick around Twilight, we have some pretty interesting discussions on the subject!

I am interested in your experience with plastic surgery. One of the things I am afraid of is getting thin and firm, but my skin still is hanging off my body. and having no way to get the surgery done. There is a part of me who would rather remain fat. Now mind you that's not the case, I've done the fat, very fat scene. I want to know what it is like to be slender, foot loose and fancy free.
I am not fond of implants either, they can hamper finding any growths that may happen. I have watched Dr. Rye on 9012 on direct t.v. so I know something of what they do, but I have never talked to someone who had it done.
How in shape do you have to be? Will the surgeon's do the installment plan? How long are you down? Can they hide the scares? (I still have my gallbladder scare from 1990, hasn't lightened much and it didn't get small.) How many surgery's do you have to do , when you have to do the arms the legs the belly, maybe the love handles in the back. this is so over whelming to me.
I would like to hear what you have to say. Thanks for the impute. looking to hear from you again.

Girl, don't ever let the fear of hanging skin keep you from losing weight. Hanging skin is an inconvenience that can be dealt with. Too much weight is a serious health risk, so go ahead and get skinny and then buy some Spanx to hold in your guts!
Now about plastic surgery. The kind of surgery that former obese people have is called 'reconstructive plastic surgery'. And as for breast implants, if you have them inserted 'under the muscle', you don't have the problems with mammograms that you would have with 'over the muscle' implantation. When we lose weight we lose what is called upper pole fullness in our breasts...you know, that flat pancake look. That's why most women who have been morbidly obese and lose weight end up having implants. But I have seen a lot of breast lifts that can get you to perky without them, too.
I was just reading your post to Jerse and you said that you didn't work, so I'll assume you are on some sort of Social Security disability. The good news about that would be that there are plastic surgeons who will take Medicaid to do reconstructive plastics. Here's the difference between your gallbladder scar and plastics scars, your gallbladder scar was made by a regular surgeon, plastic surgeons go to school to learn to make your scars perty. They are hidden and are made to fade to fine white lines. And trust me, having incision lines beats the crap outta of having that skin!
If you are in excellent shape, you can have more than one procedure done at one time. I always combined my surgeries. Otherwise, you might need to take them one at a time. There are also some people who are still in the process of losing weight and have a long hanging pannis...ya belly. There is a procedure that removes the belly fat and skin called a panniculectomy. This helps the patient have more mobility to continue to lose weight. The next step above this would be to have a Tummy Tuck. This surgery is more extensive and includes tightening your abdominal muscles and a mons lift.
Let me know if you have anymore questions, I used to hang on the plastics board and I've seen a lot. And I've been through a lot. You might want to take a look over there to see what you are in for. Remember, with plastics, they don't cut into your body, it's all just below the skin, so the pain is not as bad as you would think it would be. And they give you some great drugs to help with that! And remember if you are reading over there, most of them have had weight loss surgery, so you won't have to be as concerned with some of their issues. Like low iron, malabsorption, not being able to tolerate certain drugs and other WLS issues. Seems like their answer for everything was to eat more protein. Sheesh!

If you are super morbidly obese or suffering an injury (depends what your knee injury is), yes, there are such extreme modifications that are appropriate. But if you are 350lbs and under, doing the above will simply minimize your results. I know it's hard, but that difficulty is when the body learns the most and gains the most strides.

Where do I begin? I have been heavy all my life, after the age of five. At 14 I was about 233. at about the age of 18 I had lost some weight. Do not remember how much, but I was in a size 18, an man did I look good. Got my first whistle, from a guy. I don't know what happened latter on: I just started gaining weight again. It feels like I have been on a diet all my life. Well to make a very long story short the heaviest I ever got was 450. that was back in 04. Since then I have lose 120lbs. This last year (07) the weight stopped moving. It's like a year long stalemate.
I'm losing inches, but the weight?? Just recently it started moving a little. I do not know if the medicine i am on, for my cholesterol. is making it worse or not. Doctor said it will effect my sugar, so for so good. I keep thinking of this old t.v. commercial where they say: It's not what your eating, it's what's eating you. To my knowledge there is no reason why I can not lose it. So, I think it's what's eating me. I know when I was 450, I kind of checked out of the social scene. I got tired of the looks, and everyone it seems telling me I need to lose weight (DA!!) I developed chronic bronchitis, Sleep Apnea, Have trouble breathing without help form a machine. I have arthritis, back problems, bad knees, some days it is so hard to move. I never married, no children, my parents have passed away. Have diabetes, IBS, and Asthma. WHAT CAN I DO???
No one will hire me for anything, No one (except a select few) visits or calls. Most of the time I feel like the mother who after the children all grow up and put mom in the nursing home and never, almost never comes to visit. The thing is I am not that old. I am what they call the new 40's I don't even look my age. I am taken for someone in their 40's but i am in my late 50's.
Most of the time I feel like I am in my late 20's or 30's (go figure!) But I go astray: I have a routine that last from 30 mins to 2 hours( I do what I can) on top of walking, dancing, resistance, stretching. I have lost about 12 inches in my hips, 4 inches in my waist and 4 inches in my bust. I think I have done good. I want to do more a lot more. I want to know what it is like to be a size 12 or maybe a 10. Well I could go on an on, but this will have to do. Thank-you for responding to my post, Till we write again take care: Twilight
