snacks and munchies

I'm bored and antsy to take my daughter to work in a few minutes.  Okay..I'm starving and I don't want to eat!  So it made me think of a post.....

What do you do when your hungry and you know you shouldn't eat?  What's your snacks, activities,  or motivation YOU do to keep your mind off the peanut butter that's staring at you! :)  Or does your plan allow you to fall for these little evil mind cravings.

Don't you DARE go in that kitchen! Nun Tsk Tsk And touch that damned peanut butter and I'm coming up there to whoop ya butt!

I'm not sure what plan you are following, but does it allow for free foods?  Like pickles or fruit or sugar free jello?

But the most important thing is to figure out why you want to eat...Boredom.  That's part of head hunger and needs to be ignored.  Like Neecee says, it won't kill you to be hungry for an hour.  I wouldn't know, I do Atkins and when you get hungry, you eat.

But you did good to get online and get your brain off of the kitchen.  How are you going to get your water to help with your hunger if you can't go in the kitchen?  Hmmmm?  Keep your eyes on the floor, get your water, and run the hell out!

And don't take any money with you when you go out of the house so you can't stop and get something ugly.  Think about when it's the next time for a planned meal and tell yourself to hang in until then.  Hunger doesn't kill you, and giving into it is not an option.  Be strong my sister...you can get through this!

That is an excellent question. With my new way of eating I just try and find something I can eat and snack on it. Before I would it whatever was starting at me plus some. Cookies
Having some ideas too keep your mind off of it would be good.

You know, I read some where a long time ago that 75% of hunger pains are caused by thirst, so I drink when I shouldn't be eating.  It calms down my hunger big time.

If it's true hunger....have some protein (LF string cheese, Atkins shake, LF cottage cheese, couple slices turkey breast)

Hot herbal tea works for me with a handful of almonds....if you're craving something sweet, try a piece of fruit (clementine tangerines are my favorite at the moment).

I'm hungry right now too, Holly and I'm choosing to go to bed....I'll picture those hunger pangs chewing up my fat cells one by one!

Hang in there...it's moments like these that we turn into little victories that make us feel good about ourselves.  Little victory by little victory we form new habits.  Listen to me....don't I sound like I know it all?  Too funny!!  (But I'm having a good night, so I'll just smile and enjoy it)

I have found over the years my problem eating was often due to boredom.  So, I recreated a life full of activity... : )

One thing that wasn't  mentioned in the replies is the need to keep your metabolism busy. I've learned that we're either burning, or storing, fat.

I found this guy through Jerry Clark who does a whole bit on metabolism.  I don't know how much he "sells" on his website, but he has some great breathing techniques, etc. There are tips available online for keeping your metabolism working for you.

My "plan", if you want to call it that, has these little snack things that our employees called "Scooby snacks". They provide just enough balanced nutrients to keep that metabolism burning. You could replicate the idea with just a small amount of pure clean protein, a few carbs, and good fats. Raw almonds with a slice of apple comes to mind. Yesterday when I was totally growly and knew I'd reach for the bad if I didn't have the good, I shook up a quick chocolate shake. Funny thing learned; if you fail to properly close your shaker bottle top, and shake vigorously, it's a delicious smelling mess.

The other trick which I'm learning from Robin, the eating disorders therapist I'm now working with, is the awareness technique of asking your body what exactly it is you need at the moment. Sometimes the answer will be water, sometimes healthy food, and sometimes a change of activity or a hug.
