New and Looking for Direction
I was originally scheduled for RNY on 1/14/09. I'd just gotten familiar with some of the forums (this week!) and found out today I will not be having surgery like I'd hoped. So... I'm on my own.
I'm 35 years old, mother of 3. At my heaviest I was 242 pounds (July 2008). I'm now just over 230. I am about 5'3 and should be around 120-130 pounds.
100 pounds of weight loss, all on my own, seems impossible. I'm disappointed in not qualifying for surgery, but looking at it realistically I can see I need to take the wheel here and continue heading toward weight loss... just using another route.
I need all the help I can get. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks,
Kristi

Hi Kristi!
Welcome! I'm fairly new here too, and this is a great group of people! I'm sorry to hear about your surgery not working out. I'm still hoping to have it, but have no idea when that will happen. When I win the lottery I think! Until then, I'm doing things the old fashoined way. I'm doing Atkins right now.
I know 100 pounds seems like a lot of weight to lose, but it is possible. Try focusing on small mini goals. You can do it!!

Welcome Kristi! I'm so glad your continuing this journey and not giving up because surgery is not in your future. I was going to have the sleeve my senior year of high school but I couldn't get my insurance to approve so I gave up and sky rocketed to a shocking 351 pounds...I realize now I can not live this way so I took control of my life...very much like you have the power to :) today I weigh 295 and I'm loving every minute of losing the weight on my own. I'm amazing and I welcome you to the ride! We're always here so ask us anything Also...I'm counting calories I eat about 1200-1500 a day I don't go over 1500 and anything I eat can't have more than 1/3 fat calories in it. Hope thats help you out hun

Kristi: I too am new, to this Webb site. I have a very long way to go still yet, but before I came on board; I had already lost 120 lbs. I try not to look at the 200 more pounds I have to lose, because that makes me not want to care. What I do now, is set short goals and not worry about the big stuff. I take one day at a time, even one meal at a time, if I have to. I got myself a pedometer( you would be surprised how many steps we take doing house work, shopping etc.) The day before thanksgiving I was walking all over the place shopping and seeing one of my doctors; at the end of the day I put on over 11,000 steps. ( that equals a little over 5 miles) boy was I tired!!
I have been told to MOVE!! Walk, excerise, dance, etc. Move that body. I tell you, like they tell me: MOVE that body. (30-60) mins. a day. The best part is: you can do it in (15) or (20) minute segments. ( I now have worked up to (90) mins. when I do toning exercises) Well enough of that.
I try to have (2) dairy servings a day. (3) or more servings of vegetables, (3-4) servings of fruit a day, (5-6) servings of (breads/whole grains/cereals) a day, (5-6)serving of meat a day (oz.) When meat is to high I have been eating a lot of beans. ( I like black beans a lot.) Make my own soup from low salt soup stock adding my beans and veggies.) (3) servings of fat a day. and if i am doing the best for myself I allow (20-100) calories for the good stuff: sugar free chocolate puddings, Popsicles, extra fruit etc.
I hope I have helped in someway best wishes on both of our journey's: Twilight
