Why I 'NEED' Atkins

First of all, let me give a shoutout to all of my Atkins Sisters who are struggling this week to get back on the wagon after eating all of that sugar and processed carbs.  Give it a good three days and I promise it will get better!  I know I felt like I had gotten hit by a Mack truck Truck Driver 2, but now I'm back to my old self.  Drink lots and lots of water to flush that junk outta your shocked system.

Every once in a while, I give this little talk to masself to remind me of why I chose the hardest plan on the planet to lose my weight.  I talk to masself a lot so it would be nice if you wanted to join in my conversation, even if you are on a different plan!

First reason was because this is the plan that I lose the fastest on.  If I'm going to be stressing out on a diet, and you know ALL plans stress you out, then I was at least going to be losing some serious weight while I was at it.  I'm insulin resistant, most people who are over a hundred pounds overweight are and the only way for me to control that was to lose weight and exercise.  Geeze, why does that ALWAYS have to be the stupid answer for everything that ails you?  Insulin resistance is a precursor to diabetes and I am fighting with everything I have NOT to get diabetes.  My mother was told to lose weight and exercise so she wouldn't get it and did NOTHING.  She died from the complications.  I'll be DAMNED in hell before I let that happen to me.  I want to be healthy til the day I die!

Yes this diet involves deprivation, but you know what, "They All Do".  If I gained all of that weight from eating the way I was eating, it only makes sense that I had to quit eating that way, no?  And carbs are not my friend so why would I want to hang out with them anymore?  The French have a saying, "Corn is for cattle and potatoes are for pigs."  They feed them that high carb stuff to make them fat!!!

One of my favorite things I like most about Atkins is that they give you a list of foods you can eat.  I say, give me a list of what I can and can't have and I can make recipes around that.  Left to my own devices of eating a little of this and a little of that...well, let's just say...my brain doesn't define 'a little'.  And then I'm sitting there crying cuz I have no control.  As long as your eating what they tell you to eat...instant control.

The number one thing I LOVE about Atkins.  The way it makes me feel after the first two weeks of hell called induction.  When I'm in the zone and eating right and working out and getting in my water and my vitamins...it's pure euphoria!

And that's why I NEED Atkins, Cool

LOL Heather...The Atkins Queen! Too Funny I don't know if I'm the queen, but if longevity counts for anything, I'm royalty for sure!

Yanno, I never had anyone to talk about weight loss with, so talking to myself made sense.   Talking Through  Only I call it reasoning with masself...so I don't sound so nutz.

Wow, you are awesome. That is great that you have found something that makes you feel so good. My problem is I never let myself get past the withdrawal point.
Keep it up, you have the mindset!!

Trisha, you sound like most people who try Atkins.  They don't make it past the first two weeks of Induction cuz 'it sucks'!  Getting all of that sugar and junk out of your system IS the same thing as withdrawals.  But once you move past that, you no longer have the cravings you have with other diets.  Sometimes, I forget to eat! Faint I NEVER would have done that 129 pounds ago.

How'd the snow shoveling go?

I tried a low carb diet with my mother in law 5 years ago before I had kids. She lost about 100lbs along with exercising, but she slowly slid off the train and gained about 50lbs back after about 3yrs. I lost about 10lbs in a little over a week, but I was young and not very commited. She is taking Alli now and lost that 50lbs again and is successfully keeping it off, I am so proud of her. Now she is my supporter. But it seems like ever since I have always been carb concious whenever I did a diet, apart of me knows that this is effective for me, but I think I am scared, because I do like some of the bad carbs. So... I am rambling again, YES I shoveled my driveway and walkway, my husband felt sorry and come out to help (toward the end). I may go back to low carbs, where do you go Mary to get your food list and stuff?

Well, I will say this in your defense, Atkins ain't for sissies, but the payoff is immense.  And if you can lose on regular low carb, that is great.  Being insulin resistant, I knew I had to do something more drastic to get the weight off.  I use www.atkins.com all the time, for recipes, info and their classes.  You can sign up for the newsletters and they will let you know when the classes start.  And it's all for free.

Honey, we all like the bad carbs, that's how we made it to this site! Cool But after you go through detox and rid your system of the junk, it gets easier to resist the evil carbs.  Especially when you workout, you don't want to fuel a workout on junk.  Now that's what I call misery.

The most notable thing for me about Atkins is the boost of energy.  It's been amazing how I went from a person who dreaded getting up to get a glass of water to someone who jogs up and down the stairs.

I don't envy any of you who have to do your do through this season and get back down to business.  Mary is right on.. just give it a few days and all will be well in paradise once more.  As for me, I chose to forgo the traditional holiday meals and sweets and forge on..   using protein shakes to eliminate most food... trying to shake things up.

I did however, indulge in some tequila (granted.. too much of it), but it didn't cause a blood sugar spike.. so I doubt it had a great effect on my efforts.

Good luck to all of you through the season................   I think it'll be ok if we all exercise moderation and remember those THREE MAGIC DAYS it takes to put us right back on track.

You Atkins folks impress me.  I just cannot do it.  I can survive a week, tops (and I LOVE meat and cheese).  What I found interesting about my own experience at the time (several years ago) is that I missed orange juice more than anything else - more than chocolate.  I don't know how you guys do it.

Original goal: lose 53 lbs.  New goal: lose 68-78 lbs total.

If Dr. Atkins were alive.. I'd be kissing his but!

It's first.. a mindset.  Atkins was desperation point for me..............just when I ditched the idea of surgery, Atkins took over.

Once I got through the first few days and realized I was not only NO LONGER HUNGRY, but also that my blood sugar had dropped 200 pts without insulin, nothing could stop me.

That orange juice you crave is like poison to me................so my mindset is as follows:

If I wouldn't eat RAT poison.. why would I fill my body with carbohydrates............. they are both deadly, just in different ways.

Good luck and God bless!
