Workout videos, if you already have them at home, are zero cost. You just have to find the drive to do them (my problem, I'll say I'll do them, then find excuses why I can't). Sweatin to the Oldies is pretty low impact (my issue), I also have a couple of the Crunch videos (can't remember the names, one's basically dance steps to upbeat music ) And I have Walk Away the Pounds 1,2,3 that give good workouts.

Other than that, if you have a weight set at home, you could incorporate some strength training into your routine. Or if you have an excersise bike/treadmill or the like you could obviously use that (but I'm thinking that if you had something like that, you wouldn't be asking for ideas!

Hope this helps!!

Thanks I appreciate the ideas. I actually have my workout for today planned. I have volonteered to the hubby to shovel the drive and walkway by hand. I did it a couple of times last year, and oh my.... we live in town and do not have a huge driveway, but its some work.  I have tiebo that my mom bought me somewhere in the house that I am going to dig out today to have. I am like you though I say I am going to do some sort of work out and I find an excuse, just like walking. Thanks again.

Well dang girl, if you're shoveling snow in the driveway, I'm going to assume that you are in reasonally good shape! Shoveling Snow  Just remember to switch hands once in a while so you don't get all of your muscles built up on one side.  That might not be the look you are going for. Cool

I used to go to the gym, but I've adapted everything I learned at the gym to do at home.  For instance to do a flexion bend, I sit in a chair and use weights instead of having to have a machine.  http://www.exrx.net/Lists/MFemale.html  has some cool animated illustrations on how to work all muscle groups, but they are in the gym, so you'll have to adapt them for your home.  I just edited this because the other link wouldn't go through.  When you see the illustrations of the women, just press the area you want to work out and they will give you a list of exercises for that area and then how to do them.   I also do a ton of half squats(they save the knees), and several different kinds of kicks to keep the gams and tush in shape.  Those are mostly for my DH!

Be careful out there shoveling that snow!

Hey Mary,
what are half squats? I've always avoided squats cuaus of my bad knees, but half squats might be doable....

Hmmmm,  Thinking let me see if I can 'splain this in words without being there to check your form, because it's particularly important with this exercise so you don't hurt your knees.

Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, feet facing forward.  Squeeze tush!  Suck in gut, actually suck your belly button into your spine, but not so hard that you don't breathe properly.  Breathe in.  Squat, but only half way down, not to the ground, until your butt reaches mid thigh.  Come up, breathing out.

On lower body workout days, I do about two hundred of those.  I also do these holding ten pound weights with the weights going up at the elbow when I go down, and then back down when I go up.  Since you are a beginner, I won't tell you about how you can do a side to side half squat.  I don't want to blow you out of the water just yet!

Crud Mary, 200?!? thats amazing here I was reading through your post, wondering if I could do MAYBE 5 of those half squat thingies and you're doin 200! WOW. How long did it take to work up to that many?? I'm thinking 5 is a nice happy goal for me! And forget about the weights w/the squats (at least for now) I'm so uncoordinated, I'd probably bring the weight up, hit myself in the head and fall back on my butt!! oww!

Belly Laugh Good grief girl, step away from those weights before ya hurt yasself!!!  It's a good thing that you are going to college so that when you get a good job, you can hire a trainer to watch your form for you.

I worked up to that much leg work after losing the first fifty pounds.  I'm one of those kind that if I'm going to do something, I want to maximize my time and benefits.  The glutes and the thighs are the heaviest muscles in your body, so if you tone the hell out of them, they burn the most calories when you are sitting still and keep your base metabolism elevated for longer.  Not to mention what it does for the toosh.

If I had to recommend something for you at this stage in your journey, I would say anything aerobic to get your heart rate up.  Anything after thirty minutes is pure fat burning...Yeah, Baybee!
