What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud? w/ Exercise Question?
Today, I am calling washing DH's clothes by hand my workout. My washing machine has an error code on it right now, apparently the computer is not interfacing with the power source. Huh? Since it's won't run, I washed clothes in the tub. Ringing my DH's blue jeans out by hand was Hard Work!
Here's my exercise question. I know that diet is the most important thing in weight loss, but there came a time for me personally, after I had lost so much weight and my body didn't want to turn lose of anymore, that I absolutely had to workout to lose anymore. And I mean workout HARD. The muscles aching, heart pounding, sweat dripping, air sucking kind of workouts. But then again, I have issues!
My question is, are you one of those people who has to workout like a Trojan to lose weight or are you one of those kind of people who can lose weight without even exercising, or maybe somewhere in the middle. Or are you like Neecee and me who workout like crazy ladies and don't lose at all!

Hey Mar
Hand washing clothes IS hard work!! I say you burnt your calories for the day!
I don't know if I have to exercise to lose more weight or not. I have a feeling I'm going to be set up like Lori - lose a vast amount of weight through diet alone, then come to a screeching halt and NEED to work out to move forward. But I haven't come there yet, so we'll see.
I'm proud I stayed on my program today. Today was very very very hard for me. At work, everyone's having catered lunches so there are so many munchies in the kitchen to eat and I said no to all of them. I don't know if I can be as strong tomorrow though. The group in purchasing and marketing is putting together a Thanksgiving Day Spread including da works - bagels, cakes, muffins, cupcakes, brownies, quiches, pies, dips, chips - everything. I was planning on cheating on Wednesday night and all day Thursday (because Wednesday night, I make "Bread soup" - a family tradition and I want to taste the fried pieces of bread, so I'm allowing myself Wednesday night after 9pm to eat). But with this spread tomorrow - I dunno...

Yanno, Neen, all of these diet plans don't want you to know their dirty little secret...you lose a TON of weight, and then your body says, uh uh, I ain't givin' it up no mo'. So you're right, with the kind of mega plateau you went through, exercise is probably in your future.
Now you know that I will always encourage you to stay on your diet cuz Atkins is THE hardest. And don't slap me, but I'll add, more effective with workouts. *ducking now* But once I was on it for a while, I would take one day off a month, just to know that I wasn't totally deprived. But I also had to take into account ahead of time that I would have to pay dearly for those carbs. So as long as you are willing to pay the price, then take the day off. Just plan on it setting you back about three days. Add Thanksgiving to that, and it'll probably be five. Just promise yourself that Friday is back to reality...no ifs, ands, or buts!
Bon Appetit,
Mary

Hi Mary:
You washed clothes by hand? I think that's a workout...and one I'd never do! I'd rather run 6 miles and finish a 2 hour spinning class than handwash clothes ;-)
You and I have discussed this before. I worked out HARD - 6 to 7 times a week, every week - to get my weight off. It wasn't easy but the bonus w/working out for me was that it was a stress reliever. And it's healthy for me!
As you know, I haven't worked out in months and I was concerned I couldn't maintain my weight without working out. Thankfully that hasn't been the case but I TOTALLY miss the gym - especially the stress relief it provides. Maybe sometime in this lifetime I can start back.
IMO, exercise is key to maintaining weight loss long-term.

Woman, how in the world you did that Bikram Yoga in a 110 degree room, I'll never know. I'd don't know which one I would have done first, passed out or threw up! And I don't know what you are talking about relieving stress, cuz that would have definitely caused me some stress. But that is because Trixie's and my endorphins don't work!
You are my exercise hero cuz you is a lean mean workout machine. Right now, your body is working out on getting rid of that infection, but one of these days I KNOW you will get back to the gym. Then you can whoop BoogerHead in the elliptical contest!

Right now, I'm where it hurts too much to walk (knees & back) and running is a far distant dream. I want to do deep water aerobics, my local swimming center offers it, but can't afford it right now. I'm hopeing santa brings me a year membership along with a smaller size pant! But right now, the best I can do is try and move around more than I was. I'm not working currently, going to school full time. For one of my classes I'm volunteering in a kindergarten class. The teacher keeps me busy, and it's more activity than I've been having. (been in a bad routine of sleeping/laying around all day. Partly, depression/feeling sorry for myself, partly pain) I did alot in class today, so I guess I'm proud of that.
I'm also proud that I've stuck to Atkins (without cheating!!) for 2 weeks! Today is day 15! I weighed today and lost another 6.8 lbs, bringing my 2 week weightloss to 17.9 lbs!! I'm VERY proud of that!! If I keep goin like this, I should be at my first mini goal before Christmas!!

Oh Heather, I'm so happy for you! You are doing so great....what motivation to keep it up.
Wow Heather, 6.8 pounds is unbelievable!I'll bet you're not depressed now, huh? Nothin' like losing eighteen pounds to put an end to that!
When I first got started on losing my weight, I had horrible heel spurs that hurt like hell and I could hardly walk. That pain went away after the first fifty pounds and then I could start to workout. But it sounds like you have a good start, chasing little hellions...I mean those lovely li'l children!
Come on Santa, Heather needs a new pair of pants!
