What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud?
Sherrie, I just looked on your profile to see why your doc would be putting you on Metformin. I didn't know you were insulin resistant and bordering on diabetes. I'm insulin resistant, although I've never had high blood sugar, I have PCOS and my doc put me on Metformin to help me lose weight. The Metformin and Atkins combined helped me to lose my last forty pounds. I couldn't tolerate it any longer than four months, but it was definitely worth feeling like crap to lose that forty pounds!
Geeze Sweetie, you sure do have a serious love/hate relationship with comfort food. I'm thinking that maybe your new plan is throwing you off on your carb up days. Carb up is insulin levels up and that makes you crave more carbs. So it's not your fault that you are giving in to those cravings...try and cut yasself some slack. If you can't go very low carb, like Atkins, maybe you could try again to just go normal low carb and keep your insulin levels on an even keel. And just try to keep it as natural as possible. Fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, high fiber, sugar free, whole wheat breads and crackers like Triscuits in moderation, and whole wheat pastas and wraps. Lean meats and low fat cheeses are good, too. I think you wouldn't feel deprived cuz there is always a low carb version of your favorite foods. You may not lose as fast, but I think it would help you to stop binging on junk if you are off of the highly processed carbs. Just a thought!
I'm praying you make the right decisions, too!
