You are at the right place! Much support here and believe me, we've all been where you are now.
I too have been a yo yo dieter my whole life (age 62 soon). I think a lot of my problem was the "all or nothing at all" attitude. I wanted a plan that gave me instant gratification and I wanted to lose 50lb/month Well, we all know that doesn't happen. I would start something and if I fell off the wagon I would consider myself a failure (once again) and start the vicious cycle of feeling guilty, depressed and then eating more to comfort myself.
All kinds of people on this forum using all kinds of methods for healthy eating. You need to find a plan that can become a "way of life". We have people doing Atkins, South Beach, Weigh****chers, calorie counting, carb cycling etc on here. We also have a daily post where we can be accountable with what we have eaten for the day....I find this helps me a lot.
Don't try to do it all at once....take baby steps...make healthier choices....drink more water....move more. As you start feeling better about yourself, you will find your motivation increasing.

Welcome to the board Miriam. I wish there was a way that I COULD save you from your stupid appetite, but unfortunately, that magic bullet hasn't been invented yet. However, there are some things that you can do to help with hunger pangs. Drink lots and lots of water. If you are absolutely going to give into some evil food, promise yourself that you will drink a huge glass of water before you do it and wait thirty minutes. That's called being in control and more than likely you will feel full from the water and have time to talk yasself out of going over to the darkside!
And nobody ever said there was something wrong with feeling hungry. It's mostly only in this country that we feel that we have to eat something if we feel the slightest hunger pang. Stop a minute or thirty and see if you are truly hungry or if it is head hunger. The more you practice this, the easier it becomes to not give in to every little signal your overactive appetite is sending your way.
Highly processed carbs are absolutely wicked and will make you crave more highly processed carbs so avoid them at all cost. If you are truly hungry, eat some pure protein to give you energy and stop your cravings. That's why I do a low carb diet. Once I'm off the carbs, I don't have those cravings for junk. And one of the things I like to stress is exercise. If you know you are going to be expending all of that energy, you don't want to fuel your body with junk for that...you need real food!
Start with small steps and before you know it, one good habit leads to another and then this journey gets easier. And learn to love yourself and make yourself a priority and you won't be so hard on yourself if you stumble. Just learn to get back up and keep going. We don't beat babies up cuz they stumble when they are learning to walk, we lift them up and encourage them to get going again. So forgive yourself for all of the diets you've failed with, and start a new journey as of today. And if you have to recommit to this again tomorrow, so be it. This is a process that takes time.
