If you don't mind me asking, why so few calories?

Hi Mary:
I'm not trying to be funny, but why not? If this is working for me in every way, then why not. Personally, I do not buy into the gov't food pyramid at all, nor about the body will go into starvation mode. This works for me and I can do it constantly. When/if it gets to a point where I need more calories to sustain myself and feel good or if I can take in fewer calories or all liquids and still feel good and healthy, I will do so. The last thing I want or need to hear is someone telling me what the "book" says about dieting. I have been 550 lbs at my highest and 180 lbs at my smallest...I wrote the book on dieting, I'm doing what
works for me.

I'll tell you a story: Once I started losing weight really well, and I decided to go to OA to get a little more support and also to get out and involved. Well, the first day I was there this woman asked me what type of eating plan I had. I told her. She said, great, but you know because you are so big an extra bowl of cereal won't hurt or a little more of that is OK. I befriended her and within 2 weeks I had blown another diet because I began to follow "her" diet/ideas for me. I left OA feeling bad about myself and cynical about people who won't accept Me right where I am! I should have known she had problems because she had been in OA for 8 years and was still 400 lbs and critical of other women in OA who had met their weight loss goals.

Trust me, I'm not one to tell ANYBODY what kind of diet they should be on!  Whatever works for you, I say go with the flow.

My only issue with consuming such a low amount of calories is the fact that your body will become very efficient at burning that amount of calories and that will make it harder to lose when you are halfway through your weight loss.  Not to mention the fact that your body will eat your muscle mass to make up for the deficit, which is the only reason I asked.

Be Well,

Hey Mary:
I don't buy the hype anymore about burning this and muscle mass that. When you have been on as many diets as most of us have we have muscle mass to burn! All of that stuff I have disgarded...If eating so few calories is such a problem, then WHY do doctors do weight loss surgery which causes the stomach to be severely reduced, limiting caloric  intake usually UNDER 800 calories-4 to 6 ounces per day of protein and VITAMIN/MINERALS...bypass the system all together forcing wls persons to take supplements for life. Every wls person I have met, their muscle structure is fine...mine is fine after all of these yo-yo diets. Stats show that ANY reduced calorie eating plan a person goes on, they will lose muscle mass, that's natural, but it will only eat the muscle when no fat is available to eat. When I get to the point that I have no fat for my body to eat, I will gladly sacrifice some muscle. Relative to stalling half way through weight loss, you can't say that because every person loses weight differently...a stall may come at anytime or many times, you simply keep on keeping on what you are doing (stall is simply the body taking a rest, no need to panic).

Like I said, I'm done with getting bogged down in the technical aspects of weight loss, cause most of that stuff just aint so. For ME, I recognize that I am in the Weight Loss Phase of My Eating Plan...when I am in Maintanence, I will gradually increase my caloric intake (very similarly to the Atkins Plan). So what works for you or someone you know is cool, but you should have no "issue" with what I choose to do. Frankly, if I were not such a strong person, your persistance would make me shakey about what I am doing. It is interesting how well meaning people can cause harm while at the same time saying "I'm not one to tell anybody...but MY ISSUE is..." Why should you have an issue with anything I choose to do...so let's leave it alone and agree to disagree.

Hey.. sweetie.....

Now.. I'm taking issue!  and I don't do that!  I'm not taking issue with what you're doing.....  I always say to do the do that works for you.   I'm taking issue with the way you reacted to a very innocent, helpful statement from a caring person!

FROM EXPERIENCE.. and well documented studies.. not as a nutrtionist. but as a body builder.. the body burns #1 PROTEIN (which is needed for muscle growth and maintenance  #2.  Carbohydrates   #3.  FAT... that fat is the LAST to go cause the body wants to hold onto it when it thinks you're fasting.

You come here looking for support and help (as most of us do)... and here's a person who is at the top of the success ladder trying to help.. and you talk that way to her?  She wasn't telling you what to do.. she NEVER DOES!!!!   She just offered you the benefit of her WISDOM AND EXPERIENCE....... and a person who would want to know how it's done would say thank you.. not shove it back in her face.

You do your thing..  it's no sweat off no one's ass...  people here just try to help.... LIke I said.. I don't care what you're doing... I do care when you disrespect the people who have taken me from super morbidly obese to HUMAN again!

Yanno.. nothing gets to me but this..  I love all the folks here..and this just freaked me out!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME TAKE OFF 120 LBS AND MAINTAIN MY MUSCLE MASS!

B: Coffee w/cream
S: Atkin's shake (1 carb)
L: 5 mozzarella sticks (3 carbs)
S: 2 oz almonds (10 carbs)
D: Bologna & cheese rollups

Carbs (14)

I don't know what has been wrong with me lately.  I just don't want to eat.  I brought in sausage and peppers for lunch today and I just couldn't bring myself to eat it.  I snacked on cheese sticks instead.  I'm hungry, don't get me wrong, but I just don't want to eat.  Today, I was so dizzy and felt like someone was sitting on my chest.  I called my doctor and she directed me to my ob/gyn (because all of this happened during my period).  I'm having bloodwork done tomorrow.  Part of me hopes something is wrong with me and that this isn't all in my head.  Do you think it's the lack of carbs?

Neen, man alive, if your ob disses you - get another doctor. Be persistant about chest pain.  Women's heart symptoms can be very confusing. I hope I am only being a Jewish mother right here, but that kind of makes me mad that he is blaming this on period stuff. wtf

Hey Janina,

I tried posting last night, but for some reason it wouldn't let me.  I agree with Necee, that sort of pissed me off him sending you to your gynecologist.  Getting dizzy and chest pain means something.  I went to a walk in clinic with chest pain once ( I pulled a muscle from lifting up a matteress), and he instantly told me I had the choice of an ambulance take me to the hospital for tests, or I can call and have someone pick me up.  He wouldn't even let me drive out of there alone.    Does this doctor know how you've been eating?  My first hunch is that I'm curious if it is your because of your diet.  I have noticed a big decrease of different foods of what you use to eat.  Plus it doesn't seem like your eating much some days.  I know your on Atkins now, but maybe it is??  I don't know, I'm just babbling. :)  I'm actually wondering if your levels are going to be low because you don't seem to be getting in much vitamins and minerals.  That's my first thought.  I know I have gotten that way when my levels are off.  I wish you luck today at the doctor.  Hope they can figure out something for ya.

Are you taking a vitamin ??  Lol, now I agree with Necee...feel like the mom's coming out of me now.ha  I'll be thinking of ya today.
