lymph edema and weight loss surgery
I am on the gastric bypass program to have surgery. I have one more requirement before I can have surgery scheduled. I weight 405 pounds and have developed lymph edema in my legs. (fluid retention that has caused so much swelling that my legs leek water like dropplets). My question is this: Has anyone experienced this and did it go away after surgery and weight loss? I would also like to know if anyone has had any complicaitons since their surgery?
Thanks for taking the time to answer, I am very nervous about this surgery but feel it is the only answer for me to get the weight off.

HI DMS
i have a nephew-in-law who had lapband - C has lymphedema also. Since surgery, it has subsided, but not gone. His veins would even burst from time to time! I know that WLS will do wonders for you in that way and many others.
I think if you're nervous, it shows you have more than half a brain! It is a risk, and when benefits outweigh those risks, ya gotta do what you gotta do, right?
I tend to agree with you - at a point one is between a rock and a hard spot. If you're so heavy you really cannot move well, it just makes it hard, even impossible to ever drop a lot of weight. I'm sure you know that.
God is with you and so of course, get as much info as you can and do what you have to do!

Thanks Neecee, that is good to know. My doctor told me even after surgery my legs might not ever be the same, but I should have asked him exactly what that meant. If the swelling will go down and expecially if the leaking water will stop it will be worth the surgery cause it is pretty miserable right now.
