SO I have heard stories about people loosing a alot of weight and having excess or loose skin. IS this a reality? I am concerned that once I get to my goal I might have that issue. Does anyone know ways to make sure that doesnt happen? Or is this just a reality that I will have to deal with??

That totally depends on how much you've got to lose.  Of course, everyone's body is different, but if you've only got ten or twenty pounds to lose, I don't think you've got much to worry about.

However, if you're like me, with 250+ to lose, then yeah, expect the saggy boobs, and floppy belly pouch.  Save up for plastics.

It's definitely a reality.  When I lost a 100 pounds before I had the flying squirrel arms (what my daughter called it), and I had enough excess skin on my inner thighs to fill up another leg or two.  It was pretty disgusting.   For me my stomach was in the best shape on my body (I love sit ups) .  Other than what Janina said, working out is the only way I've heard people tone up a bit while they lose the weight.  But I don't believe if your body is that much out of shape it will all bounce back.  I've also heard that it depends on your elasticity ??  I haven't read too much into it, I just know it's gross. Lol, I use to pull on mine all the time for entertainment.haha

One thing though is that your so happy losing all of that weight you don't care!  Well I should say you would rather have that ol' hanging skin than fat back invading your body! :)

or the bat wings..thats what i call them..but everyone is different..someone could be big..but not have very big arms..my arms is my main worry..and my boobs i guess..but heck good bras can fix the boobs..i was looking into the surgery before finding this board..and i have talked to people that have had the surgery..and for them..the excess skin wasnt a big deal..they had lost the weight..and some didnt have the diabetes anymore..or they could sleep..they were healthy and they felt better..so the excess skin..was the least of their worries..we have to look at it the same way..theres always going to be something that needs to be "fixed". As long as we are healthier..we may have to deal with the excess skin.

yes there will be excess skin. the degree depends on many factors including age, genetics, how many times you've lost and gained weight (elasticity), how fast you lose the weight etc. you should do strength training throughout your weight loss just because its good for you but it won't fix or prevent excess skin.  i was young when i lost my weight and exercised (cardio and weights) every day and i still had lots of skin and have had lots of plastic surgery. did i NEED it? probably not. was it severe like some of those who have WLS? no. but it bothered me enough to fix it.  but bottom line - this is not an important issue in the grand scheme of things and certainly isn't a reason to NOT try to lose weight. there are pros and cons to losing weight and pros and cons of staying where you are. you just have to figure out what its worth and choose what is best for you health-wise.
