I found out my insurance does not cover any WLS. I am 5'3 and about 280. I loose about 5 pounds then by the next day it is back again. I really doubt my abilities to loose the weight. Help and any words of "you can do it" would be appriciated..............

well you can do this. A lot of us are doing it. maybe its a sign that your insurance wont pay. Not only that surgery isnt going to help someone if they dont change the way that they eat and if they dont exercise. some..not all..have this surgery and still eat the crappy ways and they are back to where they started before the surgery.

So my advise..watch your portions..try staying away from so many breads and pastas..moderation is the key! and get exercise!! Walking is a good thing!!! Umm..oh also i wouldnt weigh everyday so that way you dont get discouraged with yourself when you see that 5 lbs back..me myself may just way once a month if that! cause anyone can become a scale addict. i hope that this helps you some..i know that a lot of others will have some advise for you. :) and remember..you can do this!!! we all can..

Well, unless you can afford to pay for your own surgery, it looks like you're on your own and if you are going to do this, you are going to have to come up with some mad skills.

Ability comes from working it and you have to be willing to search your soul about what you're doing right and wrong and make adjustments.  It's like I just said, for this to work, you have to want this more than you want to live another year.  And commitment to do the right thing for your body has to be one of the most important things in your life.  YOU CAN DO THIS!  It's a lot of hard work, but if you are willing to put in the effort, it WILL pay off.  What kind of a plan are you on?

Mary thats part of my problem, I do not have a set "plan". I watch what I eat, trying to be more active and drinking tons and tons of water. I do not eat when I am not hungry and stop when I am full. (May sound silly but I was a "plate cleaner" from wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back) Those few changes have gone pretty well and werre not easy to make. I had to eat it if it was on my plate. Used to drink lots of diet coke, no more, used to be a chocolate obsessed lady, now I go months without it. But those changes are not getting it done.

It made me smile when you said you don't have a plan...you watched what you ate.  Way back in the day, when I didn't have a plan, and I watched what I ate, I watched as all kinds of junk went straight into my mouth!  Fat Woman 2  So, I'm going to suggest that the first thing you do is figure out a plan that is right for you.  The thing is, there are a almost a bazillion plans!  There's low carb, very low carb, low fat, low calories, vegan, Weigh****cher's, prepared foods like Jennie Craig and Nutrisystem...well, you get my drift!  But the greatest thing about being on a plan is it teaches you control.  I'll give you an example.  I'm on Atkin's because I was diagnosed as being insulin resistant.  But I love it because I say tell me exactly what I can have and I'll make my recipes out of those ingredients.  But it also gives me a sense of being in control.  I stay on plan, but control comes when I say, I'm going to go off plan and take a day off on Tuesday.  Or I'm going to a party, so I'm going off for that.  So if I'm sitting in my kitchen at midnight eating cupcakes...that's outta control.  I'm proud to say I was in control last night because I was Jonesing for some pie, and it took all of my strength not to eat it, but I knew I was going to be doing a lot of physical work today and I didn't want to fuel that with junk.  Sugar and hard work,  Sickened  not exactly compatible.

And another thing a good plan teaches, it's best to eat three meals a day and two small snacks.  Reason being is that it keeps your body's furnace stoked all day to burn more calories.  Eating only when you are hungry leads to either not getting enough calories, or leads you to overeat when you do eat.

Diet cokes are evil so good for you to give them up.  Water is so essential to weight loss so tons is really really good!

Sorry to say that to get the weight off, your changes have to be drastic.  That being said, it's also the beginning of a loooooong journey in which you will learn from your mistakes and start to be comfortable with new eating habits.

So have you researched any plans, yet?

Mary, just your few comments are so good for me, I mean that. You sound like someone I need living next door to me, helping me to be accountable to me lol. No, I have not done enough research yet. I know what I need to do, I see my health declining, I feel it declining and yet, I have always been bad about being accountable to me. When I was pregnant I had diabetis, I know and I even told the doctors that the only reason I took those insulin shots were for the babies. I have a hard time doing anything just for me. I am the only one I am hurting and I have always had a hard time commiting to something for ME. It is the feeling of not being worth it and I think it is also the fear of failure. Too many excuses. It is true though, I will do anything for anyone else that I can, stretch myself as far as I can, when it comes to me, not so much.

Hey, I just read your profile, so I'll be able to save you some time on your research on which kind of plan you need to be on.  If you had gestational diabetes and your doc said you could possibly develop type II diabetes in the future, then you are insulin resistant and you need to be on a low carb plan to lose weight.  I know because I have it and have to go very low carb because I am so sensitive to carbs.  That's why I do Atkin's diet.  So technically it is not your fault if you gain five pounds in one day.  Your body has reset itself and it is possible now for you to GAIN weight on  a low fat diet.  Let me know if you have any questions and I'll see if I can answer them for you.

Now I'm going to fuss for a minute and if you take it personally, then I will have gotten my point across.   Cool  You say that you are willing to do anything for anybody, but that you do not deserve for you to do anything for yourself.  Woman, you are wrong on so many levels it boggles the mind!  Think of it this way.  If one of your children was overweight and it was wrecking their health, you would move heaven and hell to find out what it is you would have to do to save your baby.  If you are going to be successful at weight loss, you are going to have to dig down deep into your soul and find out what it's going to take to have those same feelings about yourself.  Bottom line, you are going to HAVE to learn to love yourself.  When you love yourself, you do what it takes to do what is right for your body.  You're going to have to live in it for the rest of your life, yanno?  When you love yourself, it's worth it to you to learn discipline.  When you love yourself, you are worth the effort of cooking food just for you to make you healthy.  So I say, start loving yourself enough to research a diet plan just for you.  Not a lot of failure involved in that little first step now is there?  If you want to take a look at Atkin's, it's www.atkins.com    Stick around here for support.  We can talk about this stuff all day long!

Ya see, I knew mentioning your kids would get to ya! Cool But if you notice, I never once came close to saying do this for your kids.  This has to be about you.  This has to be about you being the main focus for once in your life.  Following a plan, and preparing the food for the plan, and staying on the plan, and dealing with the ups and downs of the plan, and losing weight, only to gain it back and then hating the plan, has GOT to be your new focus.  It can become an obsession, but whoever said that all obsessions are bad?  This is the quality of your life we're talking about here and you are in charge!

Adopt me? Shock 2  Well, both of my parents have passed so I guess that technically makes me an orphan.  A 51 year old orphan!  Howze about I adopt you and I'll feed you like a good Cajun mother would...only it would all be healthy!

Your "friend",

Maybe you adopting me would work. I know I would not get away with excuses on anything, thats for sure! My mothers name was Mary also, funny huh? So cajun food  always sounds spicy to me. Is it? I have never had any. I can not do anything with any kind of spice to it (my DH says I can not do anything with flavor but, he likes tapitio and other hot hot stuff).

Talk to you soon!
