Janina's Pity Party

But Janina,

Look at your profile picture. You've got this amazing spark of life.

Why are you trying to release pounds? Because of the scale's reading, or because you want optimal health for optimal quality of life forever? YOU, my smiling little icon face, are worth investing in.

I've seen women release 100+ pounds; one did 125 in 10 months. She felt like she was worth investing in. It may not have been easy every single day, and she's the first to say she fell once in a while. But she wanted to be able to allow her husband to love her. (Her words, not mine)

There are so many things that affect our weight. I seriously doubt the almonds are,in themselves, a bad guy. However, I'm fairly "religious" in some of what I do/do not consume. I believe, IMO, roasted nuts are NOT the same as raw, organic nuts. According to the research I've done, heating oils changes their structure and they're no longer the body-friendly food they were intended to be for us. From what I have read, watched, and experienced, our body will call those altered fats "toxins" and enrobe them in fat to protect us. As close to the natural state of the food as POSSIBLE is always a good guideline when choosing what to eat. Rice, for instance, isn't white. Broccoli isn't limp and dripping with butter.

Throwing your fine posterior onto the treadmill, literally, won't work, but 30 minutes of good activity a day can make ALL the difference. Again; it's an investment in YOU.

I'm listening to a CD of the book by Jeff Olson, 'the Slight Edge, Secret to a Successful Life'. Is the treadmill an easy thing to do? Yes. Is it easy NOT to do? Yes. So you make the good choice today to hit it for 30. Are you a size 5 tomorrow? No. But, if you kept that 30 minutes up for 30, 60, 90 days, increasing your intensity and time as you grow stronger... what might be your result in 90 days? Better than if you continue to walk by the treadmill thinking about the "someday" you'll use it? Hmmmm. It's a slight edge.

So drown your sorrow in a huge glass of ice water, plan for a good healthy lunch, don't allow your metabolism to suffer by skipping out on high quality foods, and make friends with the treadmill. Laughing raises your metabolism, and alkalizes your body.

We're all cheering for you, girl. You're way too cute to be sad. Plus you always encourage everyone else, right? Looks like everyone is in this thing together. In the long run, if you are convinced you are feeding your valuable body the best nutrients you can find, then stay the course. Personally, my MIND didn't do well on Atkins, even though I started to drop weight. I am a fan of balance, but support you in your decision to give this one a whirl.

I definitely appreciate the pep talk.  Lord knows I need it.

I singled out the almonds/oh yeah wafers because that's the only thing the Atkin's plan doesn't allow during induction.  You're limited to meats, cheeses, and veggies.  That's literally it.  I decided that as long as I'm eating under 20 carbs a day, who cares what those 20 carbs consist of.  I can't do that.  Atkin's is all about chemistry.  I can't expect for the diet to work if I'm consuming 20 carbs worth of sugar, when sugar is the enemy, you know what I mean?

The long talk with Lori was a huge help.  My plan is: I'm going to lay off the b/s food for the next week and see how that does me.  Then, on the 15th, I'm going to get my fat ass on the treadmill and walk for 15 minutes a day.  It's not 30, like you suggest, but I need to work up to 30.  Talking to you guys really lets me know that I can do this.

(siiigh of relief)... I'll get there.  I just need to focus.

Well..I wrote a long post and then edited it...or I thought..and it vanished.  I guess I deleted it instead.  Not sure if you read it or not, but it sounds like you already had your talk with Lori.

Just remember every diet is not for everyone.  I'm just wondering if you are this frustrated now, and  think it's so hard, if it's really for you.  Whatever you decide I wish you all the luck.

One thing I have noticed is that you don't eat much veggies!  I have read you suppose to eat 12-15 grams of your carbs in veggies a day.  I don't think your doing that.  Now I'm not an Atkins guru in the least, but I just thought I would mention what I read.  It's frusturating..I know, especially with hate exercising.  But like Mary said, it' is a must do at some point.  My doctor also lost a hundred pounds and then had to start exercising to finish off his weight loss.  Have to tell ya Janina, he is extremely thin now..so the exercise worked.

Hope your going to take a "mental break" from all of this, sounds like you need it.  I think we get so gung ho in this whole thing that we forget to be happy.  I almost wonder if it's then that we sabatoge ourself.  I know I have been thinking a LOT about my eating habits this past week after my mom said a comment to me.  Her comment really scared me so I have been taking a hard look at my life.  My life relvolves around food, and probably always will.  Not only that but I'm obsessed with it.  But I am realizing that I do not or can do a raw diet, a vegan diet, Atkins, or even SB!  It's just not me, and probably never will be.  What I'm saying is that try to remember you need to figure what your going to be able to stick with for life.  Being so frusturated with Atkins the past few weeks just made me wonder if it's for you.  Not saying it is...just wondering.

I have came to the point where I'm going back on WW as of today.  It's a SLOW process of losing, but it's something I can live with and tweak however I want too.  If I want to eat all meats and veggies I can, if I want to eat a piece of cake during the day I can.  But I'll just have to take away other things to make it happen.  Portion control and calorie control is a good thing with WW, helps with those little problems like the Almonds! :)

Wishing you all the luck in the world Janina.  I personally wouldn't throw in the towel just yet on that surgery.   I think you've came a lot longer way than you think.  Give yourself some credit, and pat on the back.  You've lost a 100 pounds! :)

Right on, Holly!  I think WW is a great program because it's something you can do the rest of your life.  Just take it one meal at a time and if you want a piece of cake, have it and be satisfied with one piece.  That has worked for me.
Best wishes!
Kim

Thanks Holly.

You're right about the 12-15 grams of carbs in veggies and no, I don't get that in a day.  I should focus more on veggies...

The thing is, Atkin's worked so well for me pre-op; why wouldn't it work now, you know?  That's what's so frustrating to me.  Lori made a point that I'm not in the same body I was a year and a half ago: My metabolism is different, I weigh less - I'm a different girl.  Good point.

I wish I COULD just take a break and eat whatever I want for a few days and not THINK about this b/s but I can't.  Every bite I put in my mouth leads me somewhere; either down the fatter road, or the skinnier road and I have to watch which road I travel because I can NOT be fatter anymore.  I let myself suffer way too much; I can't keep this up.

Hey janina,

I didn't mean to take a break from eating good stuff all together.  I mean you should just go with the flow and do whatever plan or way of eating you want to do WITHOUT thinking of the scale!!!!  The scale gets us every time.  Sorry if I said that wrong, I swear sometimes my mind gets ahead of myself while I'm writing.  Your exhausted, fed up, ready to throw in the towel, and frustrated.  It's time to relax and see where it goes.  I also have a hard time with this, but I'm learning! :)

It is frusturating not having a plan work for you that has before huh.  I also have the same problem.  Makes me realize how much we go on different programs, and different ways of eating,  our metabolism is so messed up.  It probably takes forever for it to settle down enough before "one" program will work!  Sucks eh?

Hope you feel better!

Holly

I have to concur with Holly here....

That FRIGGIN' scale is my enemy.  The food I eat is wonderful!  :)  It makes me feel healthy and energetic and happy................... then I get on the scale and my entire world comes crashing down.

Remember, Janina.. there ARE other markers.  start measuring kitty cat!

If you're doin' Atkins.. you're doing veggies.. whether that be before or now...  AHA.. you thought you could get away with that..     I see how ya are little kitty cat!

You got the peppers and LOTS of nice salad veggies going on (man I haven't radicchio in a dog's age)...    but what about broccoli and yellow squash and zucchini and the 30 or so other veggies on the induction list.  The more dark green, the better off..  then add.

Janina....don't have any great words of wisdom here, but please know that I'm here feeling for you too!!  I too am one who just doesn't exercise.  I have a membership to the Y, love the water aerobics and just don't go.  I have to get my arse in gear too.  We know that at this stage of the game (having been on so many different diets and screwing up our metabolisms) exercise has to be a key component.  Try and find something you enjoy doing that's physical.....now that leaves the door open for lots of possibilities.  :)  They say (whoever they is) that it's easier if you're enjoying the activity.  So maybe the treadmill isn't for you.  Have you got a dog to walk?  a niece or nephew to play with?  a line dancing or salsa class?  Get one of those old Richard Simmons tapes and dance with the oldies.  Just suggestions.

I think trying Atkins by the book for a week will tell a lot.  Hope it works for you if that's what you succeeded on before and you liked it.  My problem is I find a plan that works for me and then manage to sabotage myself after 2-3 weeks.  I also agree the scale is our enemy.  Just think how different you would have felt if you got on that scale today and it said you were DOWN .6lb.  And what's .6lb....depends if you just had a glass of water or peed, for heaven's sake.  I'm as addicted to the dang scale as I am my carbs.  Try taking your measurements instead.....I bet you'll see a difference even if that old scale doesn't budge.

You know I'm here cheering you on too....Sherrie
