Doctor's Visit

Beth, i feel ya...we have to wean away from those foods that made us only want to eat more. I was shocked when I did Atkins induction for 30 days - most days I barely ate 1400 cals, eating full fat sour cream, butter, meat.  I felt weirdly un-hungry.  I cannot say cravings were completely gone, for after the 6th week of Atkins, i did begin to feel like I HAD to eat tortillas.

I only lost 4# in that 30-45 days, so i've done that well on most any 1400 cal diet plan with not a whole lot to lose. But never did I feel so satisfied!

You're right, 52# a year with lots of weight to lose is not dramatic, but as we say so often, what it sows is that you are learning some very deep habits that you are proving you can live with!

You are SO not being your mother. You are changing this now, and it is going to save your life and perhaps your daughters!

I am just as mean in my belief that there are things worse than death - living with awful pain, breathing issues, movement restricted - and if i knew I did it to MYSELF because I could not discipline myself to learn about & live in better health, omg, that is worse than Hell.

Beth:
It sounds like you have a great doctor, which is so important.  52 pounds a year is AWESOME!!!  And it's due to changing your lifestyle so it's sustainable.  Good for you for taking control of your life and making the necessary changes so you don't end up like your mom.

Keep it up, girlfriend!

"52# a year doesn't seem like much when you weigh 300 but ya know, I'm not turning it away, either.  I want this and I'm willing to wait as long as it takes."

Oh yea?  I think 52# a year healthier is phenomenal.  At over 300 lbs, my doc was always pushing me to lose just 10% of my total body weight.  He'd tell me that I'd experience so many benefits from just 10%.  He was so right too...  at my first 50# off I was a different person.

I know I'm always pushing the rush, rush, rush to lose for myself - but I feel like I've run out of time.  If this were 10 years ago when I still felt well... I probably would have done a backbend and kissed my own ass for 52#.

I think you're amazing!  You're enjoying life at the same time you're taking care of yourself.  Some of us can't do that.. it's either one or the other and people like us lose out.

You just keep doin' your do and have a glass of ice cold milk for me!

"I am beginning to revert back to my childhood ways when we drank whole milk, ate butter dammit, real freakin mayonnaise, made our dressing our own selves out of real sour cream and herbs."

Yeah!  You tell 'em!

Eating FAT keeps me from eating MORE.  If losing weight is all about "less", than what sense does it make to eat foods that leave us wanting more?

I gotta say.. I do miss milk!  OH yummmmm... milk and a big PB&J sandwich (staples of my youth).. LMAO

Beth....you are doing such a great job and you must be so proud!!  I'm so glad the job is a plus for you...you sound like such a sweetheart and those little kids must love you.

Hey, I'd be thrilled if I ended this year losing 52 lb.  Hey, if we could do that for a couple of years we'd be in good shape.  Slow and steady wins the race....you just keep pluggin along there, girl.  Your whole family must really be proud of you and what a great example you're setting for them.  No worry about you becoming your mom.

Congrats on your progress.  Keep up the good work.  I know you are not slapping lap banders.  It is one of the most caring supportive group on this sight.  For me the band has worked beautifully and it also was very easy for me.  So easy and painless I drove myself home from the hospital.  For those of you who might be interested.  It isn't for everyone.  After over 30 years of dieting, I finally quit and gained almost 100 lbs.  The weight didn't bother me, the diabetes and high blood pressure did.  I refuse to diet anymore.  The band has made that possible for me without any effort.  It has greatly reduced if not eliminated that feeling of hunger only an overweight person can understand.  Also eliminated the need to shove huge portions of food down my throat, and then ask myself, did I even enjoy that or realize what I was eating?   It also eliminated the diabetes and high blood pressure.  My doctor told me in the not too distant future they will be doing all weight loss surgery thru your esophogus and you will not have any incisions at all.   Success to you all.  I know, boy do I know, how hard keeping the weight off used to be.
