What did you eat today? 09/04
I know you're "doing" Atkins, which I tried once but got very light headed... and maybe I don't know what the whole point is here but - I think you should shake things up and have breakfast to start your metabolism. Your poor body is crying "feed me, feed me" and you're giving it delicious coffee with creamer, but no nutrients! I am never out of bed more than 30 minutes before I've taken in 30+ grams of protein. Are you in some phase of Atkins that doesn't allow for so much protein?
I could make something like an omelet the night before and heat it up but that's too much trouble. I just stick to the shakes. They have more protein anyway. If it helps any, I take four vitamins everymorning, for nutrients. Does that count?
Wallyworld.. frozen aisle.. FROZEN EGG PATTIES AND FROZEN BEEF AND SAUSAGE PATTIES. Egg patties are less than 1 carb.. zero for the meat. I even throw cheese on 'em for Jon when I'm in a hurry.. ONE minute in the microwave. If he has an early meeting, I throw it in a container in the fridge the night before with his lunch and snacks.. he just packs it in his lunchpail and can run out of the house at 6:00.
Protein is great.. where's the fat in the morning. Read chapters 1- 10. You want to see twice the % of fat than protein. Are you keeping track in fit day? I had to do this for a VERY long time in order to figure out how to add the fat. We're so used to ripping skins off chicken, using non-stick pans and trimming fat from steak that it can be a challenge to get it in. The fat is what is going to keep you from being hungry.
Vitamins count.. especially water soluable vitamins. I set up three little rubbermaid containers every night with the next day's supply for Jon. One is for breakfast, one goes in his lunch bag, one is for dinner. Get your fat from the bottles too! Flax seed oil.. fish oil.. I take 2000mg a day (approved by my doctor).
I know you're pissed.. believe me.. I KNOW YOU'RE PISSED.... but before you do anything drastic let's take a closer look.. ok?
I'd lay off the frankenfoods until you're ready for OWL or maintenance. Not everyone can handle them.
Look at the label on that sf candy.. see if it's sweetened with alcohol. If it is.. ditch the b*tch.
Can ya eat a whole food in the morning like a couple of eggs with a couple of pieces of bacon? You might be needing more fat.
Are you taking in extra fat? What about flax seed oil, fish oil capsules. I also don't see anything about coconut oil, canola oil, olive oil, butter. <-- would prefer the oils to the butter
Have you checked for ketones? (I can't live without my ketone test strips).
Have you taken measurements? One can go a few weeks without dropping an ounce, but inches will come off. Everything is relocating - adjusting to the last loss.
Ok.. tell me everything...
Okay Chica - lemme lay it out.
I do have the ketone strips and I usually have between trace to moderate ketones in my pee (depending on how much I drank that day). When I drink a lot, the ketones go down. I guess because my pee is diluted.
For breakfast, I do the shake. Shake's got 9 grams of fat in it. That's kinda good, right?
Lunch, I do an enormous salad with boiled egg, bacon, some tomatoes (not much), and some chicken. I use creamy cesaer dressing and some thousand island dressing, mixed together. The thousand island taste is what I'm going for but it's so high in carbs (6 carbs per 2 tblspoons) so I mix it with some cesear and it gets the job done. I use probably 5 tblspoons of dressing total (it's a huge salad - I use one whole bag of the premixed greens - it's like 3 servings of salad in one bag). Sometimes I'll do hamburgers, sometimes hotdogs. Should I stick to meat over the salads?
I snack on string cheese or Land o' Lakes cheddar. I'm just not much of a cheese person, so I don't crave it. I have a major sweet tooth though (example: my chewing and spitting out cake yesterday) and that's why I suck on the sugar free Lifesavers and Cremesavers. They ARE sweetened with sugar alcohol, but from what I read in the book, that's only supposed to effect some people, not all, so that's why I haven't steered clear of it yet.
Dinner, I eat protein and veggies. My dinner meals are always right on, because my family eats a lot of steak, chicken, pork - not a lot of pasta. I just avoid the side dishes that I can't eat (potatoes, pasta, rice, etc) and eat the rest.
At night, I have pica and I MUST EAT. I bought NOW Nut Clusters. They're lightly sweetened with cane juice. I like those or the "Oh Yeah!" Wafer bars. They're yummy.
My scale moved the first week and I got down to 281 and change. Now I'm up to 284. I don't know what happened.
Do I need to bring it back to basics? I weigh in every Monday, so I'm going to see how this week goes and tweak it from there. I'm not exercising at all, and I don't want to until I get a successful diet underway.
Any help at all would be seriously appreciated. I feel so lost right now. I was crying about this last night to my best friend.
I'd ditch those dressings. Can you handle blue cheese? Marie's make's a blue cheese (in produce dept) zero carbs. Don't ditch the salads, but are you using dark green like romaine? You need the salad veggies. 2 cups a day.
Yanno what I do for flavor on salads... sometimes olive oil, garlic and salad supreme (it's in the spice aisle).
Speaking of olive oil.. I don't see you mention that you use any oil while cooking. How about some coconut oil in your coffee. Watch dem sticks turn purple!
Watch your dairy... not everyone can handle it. No more than 4 oz of NON processed cheese a day, and if you fall out of ketosis.. dump it.
As you already know, some folks are sensitive to the alcohol.. you could be one of them.... but for now, as long as you are turning those sticks - you're burning fat.
Induction is two weeks... basics. I'm still on something like induction almost a year later... the loss is going to take a break.
DO NOT FREAK AND DO NOT DO ANYTHING FOOLISH. If you change it up and decide to do something else and have a white potato or something, it could take 3 days to get back in and you're on a roll here.
Janina.. this is completely doable and it gets easier and easier and easier. Jon is a sweet FREAK.. he used to eat entire pumpkin pies.. boxes of twinkies.. and now he doesn't even WANT it. He hated broccoli- now he loves it. Your tastes will change!
PS.. what are you doing for veggies.. You need dem veggies.. how are you cooking them?
Your body is reacting to this new weight... it thinks your kicking the sh*t out of your fat cells.. and just like any other injury.. what happens? Fluid rushes to the area to protect what's under attack. Just give your body some time to realize that there is no injury going on and remember that this way of eating has a diuretic effect when done right, but anything can have an effect on it. Do your do for a month.. give it a month... .then average out how much you've lost in that month. It'll probably be equal to any other way of dieting except you're not hungry.
You've lost more lately than you've lost in a long time so you know you're doing something right!
