We beat Gustave, but NOT dietwise!

Thanks for your prayers and concerns.  We're safe and sound.  Storm wasn't as bad as they had predicted.  There's a tree down from the roots down the street, and shingles and tree debris in the street, but no major damage here.

We lost power for only 3 hours.  I hear that other towns may not have electricity for a week or so!  Whew!  It's too damn hot!

I've been cooking and cooking and baking and eating candy and ice cream.  I baked my own birthday cake for tomorrow, but we started eating it already.  My exercise classes have been cancelled till later this week....that's not good for me.  I've eaten way too much to not be moving.  But the stress is over (except for having to tend to my elderly parents who are staying with us till they can get home) so I have to get my a$$ back in diet mode.

But guess what?  Hurricane Ike is taking the same path that Gustave did.  We'll just have to wait to find out what he brings.  Such is the life of living near the Gulf of Mexico.  But life is good!

Bren

P.S.  Mary, as you reminded me, I washed all my "draws" the day before the storm, so I was prepared.  Thanks!

Doesn't it seem like, once you start the carbs going (bread, cake, cookies, crackers) you just want more and more and more??? I don't even buy those things any more, not for anybody! In my opinion Americans way over-snack, on really bad stuff, so why be tempted!!! If I have cake around, it seems to be beyond willpower to resist it. HOWEVER - I've got to say that in the last two years (since I dropped my lard!) the healthier I eat the healthier the things I "crave" if you can call it that. When you're super stressed, your body requires more of things like B vitamins. You will search for what you need by consuming more and more of the foods you've come to associate with relaxation and comfort. It might be good flood insurance to get a great B vitamin supplement!  There really are vitamin supplements designed for "stress", if you'll notice. While I do not practice shopping for these at WalMart or RiteAid, their hearts are in the right place! Get a good, preferably liquid, stress fighting complex, and see if that doesn't turn your world around. It has mine! Glad you're high and dry and have electricity.

PS: My friends and the friends of my kids are distressed that Mom Shap no longer bakes cookies. I was famous for mine. Perhaps there are little butt dimples to this day that I'm responsible for!
