What Have You Done Today to Make You Feel Proud?

Stay safe Mary!

I had two different things happen today that I'm sort of proud of.  The first one I actually just posted in my food journal of today.  We went out to dinner and I ordered a big plate of chicken liguine.  I have been craving alfredo lately and thought it would give in to my craving.  I took two bites of it and realized I did not really care for it much.  I looked at my husband and told him that it was not worth the calories, so I put it on the other side of the table and just ate the salad bar.  I usually would have eaten the whole thing anyway, just because I ordered it!

The other thing I'm proud of is that we took a lady home from the store today that locked her keys in her car.  She was in her 50's, and wasn't well off physically.  She was a nervous wreck, as I was also, on the way to her house.  I kept waiting for her to pull a knife out or something.lol  But we knew she was nervous also, as she talked a mile a minute.  Made me realize how careful this world is today , but we forget how to be kind and help one another out.  There has to be a balance some where, other wise I think this world can just go to shambles.  She was just a woman who needed help, had only two bucks on her, and her husband was out playing golf some where. This is where I like my life to be...helping one another in any kind of need, no matter how small it is. Makes a person feel good.

Way to go Holly!  You did two good things for your body today.  You made good food decisions AND you helped someone in distress, which makes you feel good and releases stress hormones.

That's something about your governor making history today, no?  Wow, she's a pistol!

Yea, it shocked me when I saw it this morning.  I won't get into politics, as I really don't do politics.  But I will say I have admiration for that lady.  She has done some good things for Alaska.  She also has helped my own family out to where I can say I believe she genuinely cares for people and what happens to them.

Mary and all others in the path of this storm...my prayers are with you all!  I can't even imagine what it must be like to have this approaching when you've lived through the devastation the first time.  We've experienced a couple of ice storms up North here that left us without electricity for a few days, but have never had to deal with the constant threat of hurricanes.

Be safe and I'll be praying for you all....Sherrie

Thanks Sherrie, I'll take all of the prayers that I can get!  An ice storm?  How do you stay warm?

Kerosene heaters and fireplaces. We have a woodburner in the garage and a kerosene heater in the rafters.

Food goes in a cooler OUTSIDE! lol

Umm...Beth, can I borrow your cooler?  This diet tea doesn't taste quite right once the ice melts!

In '91 we were without electric for 9 days and used a wood burning fireplace....slept in sleeping bags in the family room.  We did have ho****er so that helped...hot shower at least, but boy was it cold when you got out.  We cooked on a Coleman camp stove on the countershelf.  It was fun for about the first 3 days and then not so much anymore!!

For the last one, we have converted our woodburner to a gas fireplace so that kept us pretty toasty.  I'll take that anyday to 100+mph winds....that has to be SCARY!

Hope all is well.

I don't know if I could take a bath and then turn into a popsicle, but I do know that gas fireplaces are the bomb!  We love ours.

A hundred mile an hour winds aren't too bad if you're in a good shelter.  Now gusts are something else.   Hurricane But by the time they happen, they're over with.
