Not weight related, anyone from OC?
yeah, I don't want to have a long drive either. I had an hour one way here and had to move because of the gas prices and I know they are higher in Ca. I would be looking to rent not buy. When I retire I want to travel around in a motor home and have not a care in the world!!!!

I don't know much about that area but I've lived in No. Ca basically my whole life (minus the 2 years I lived in GA), more specifically the SF Bay Area. My biggest complaint about CA is the cost of everything and the people. Seems to be quite the stuck up "me me me" breed out here, give or take a few humble people like me lol :) I've always struggled out here, california is really kind of a world of its own built around image and money. But I wouldn't let that sway you, you should make a trip out here and check everything out and see if it is some place you'd enjoy living. I do know I miss the hospitality of Ga A LOT and I have some wonderful friends out there that I'd be lucky if I could ever make friends like that out here.

Since I moved to Florida from MI, I do not have many friends either. Not close ones but I'm ok with that. The cost of things I understand are high, but there must be hourly people that can afford to live in the area??? waitresses, guest service people???
I bet the sceanry is beautiful. I like camping, fishing and just being out doors. That is why I am pretty excited about the chance. I am concerned that I will have to commute a good hour to afford living.

It isn't easy for those people to survive on their own and chances are they may be living in a less then desirable area, some people do it though. I know my fiance and I make a decent salary combined but there is no way I could really afford to live on my own without struggling or living in a not so great area. We are also trying to buy a home and most likely will be moving another 30 minutes away from where we work, we already commute 30-40 min.
A lot of people commute a good distance in CA to afford to live out here, and gas prices don't help either. I would recommend a hybrid or some other type of economical car if you are going to have to commute a good distance.
This is on the other hand a pretty state for the most part (take away the ghetto areas lol).
