New to the forum and losing weight in general
I began my diet around July 7th and have been religiously sticking to it since. I have dropped at least 30-40 pounds, at one point losing 8 pounds in a week. Sooo much water and muscle, I'm sure though. I started to feel worse than I did before actually! I really had to learn to slow it down, because I think I was losing so much muscle that it made it more difficult to walk. My knees started aching, but I found a solution to help with the sedentary lifestyle of working in an office and being a gamer.
I got a wii and started playing tennis ( a sport I enjoy but was not ever particulcarly great at because it's so physical. ) The wii helped me to really get on my feet more often, it's just hard to get into such a simple game unless you're up and at it. My knees are starting to feel better now, and I don't get as sweaty (I'm already the kind of guy predisposed to being a big sweaty beast anyway so being obese doesn't help).
Unfortunately, the last time I went to weigh in (after 1 week) I had lost nothing despite being under 2000/cals a day. Top this off with the fact that my waist hasn't budged in 3 weeks.. I was consuming massive amounts of diet pepsi in replacement of my alcohol drinking (something with flavor helped). I really think the pop was making me retain more water somehow! So I'm wondering about others' experiences with this type of problem and of course would like to share my tale.
I am sure that my body is going through a lot of changes because it's never lost weight before, only gained. I am curious about anyone who has had a very large waist and if it took theirs a long time to shrink. Large people's stomachs tend to hang down and I'm wondering if it has to slowly go up, then shrink back into my body. I realize this might be an odd question but with working so hard at maintaining my resolve, I'd like to see something happen!
Congratulations on seeing the scale go down for a change and finding the perfect exercise for a gamer...that wii is fun. I bowled on one and was a lot better on it than I ever was at an alley!
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of a diet are you on. If I were a guy I would go on Atkins because it spares your muscle mass and guys lose well with it. I used it to lose way over a hundred pounds and like it because it helped me to not have bad cravings. I too was addicted to Pepsi. I know it's hard to get off of, but all of that sodium and chemicals really messes with your metabolism and you will retain gallons of water. Richard Simmons said he lost 17 pounds just getting off of the diet Pepsi!
Dude if this is your first time losing weight, you need to brace yourself now for the roller coaster we call weight loss. That scale can be all over the place for no good reason or for a very good reason so just remember that a number on a scale for a week doesn't determine your success.
As far as having a huge belly, you should have got a load of me when I weighed 320 pounds! Once I lost the weight I had a huge panni...the part of your stomach that hangs down. I ended up having to get a lower body lift to get it off. But the good news is that you are only 26 and still have a shot at getting yours better if you lose the weight now. The longer your skin is compromised by being stretched out, the looser it stays after weight loss. Once you are able to workout more, you will be able to work your core muscles and that helps your belly. And you're a man, so your belly will go down better than a woman's...I see that on the plastic board all the time. If you want to see mine before it got whacked, it's on my profile.
Let us know if you have more questions and feel free to join in on the conversation. You'll be amazed at the difference of opinions we have around here to get to the same goal!

Your second to last comment was :
"Large people's stomachs tend to hang down and I'm wondering if it has to slowly go up, then shrink back into my body. "
Your question, final was: I'd like to see something happen
I am lost, but this minute, I happen to be more high than you are, so I will dive right in.
Being fat sucks. Once you, me, everyone here got fat was the fatal mistake. Our bodies do not know what to do, how to react. It (your body) got too fat and let these unimaginative outgrowths happens.
All we can do now is research, learn, and finally try to do what is right to get our bodies to stop freaking out.
