I am going to beat a dead horse here!!!
Ok so that is my rant sorry if it didn't make sense. I was just trying to get it off my chest!!!!!
He said at that speech that after his experiment where he gained like 35# in one month, his body would do this too - gain 5-8# water-y weight in one weekend - his body had never done that or reacted that way ever before.
That really struck me - I have been a binger most of my life, so my body is well trained this way.
It is truly water weight in my case...sometimes a pound or two will be real, or at least harder to shake off.
weird..and depressing!

So the best you can do is the right thing for your body and then wait for the scale to catch up. Cuz in my opinion...there is no explanation for why this happens.

It's frustrating isn't it. I use to get so mad at my ex because he got to eat his rice several times a day. No one quite understood why I weighed so much eating Asian style. Then I got gestational diabetes and got to see how different foods affected me. It was really an eye opener, and really neat to see how my sugar level would spike up big time with a portioned out amount of rice. Then I could have a peanut butter sandwich and it would be fine. Recently I figured that every time I eat popcorn I gain a pound. Think my bodies telling me something. :)
This is the only thing I can think of to compare of what you are talking about. Our bodies just can't handle certain foods. If I ate three bags of NON buttered popcorn a day I would gain ten pounds by the end of the week I'm sure of it, or really close. Even though this is only a few hundred calories worth of popcorn. See what I'm saying?
So yes, it's VERY VERY frusturating!
I just have to say congrats on you trying to quit smoking. Good for you!
I looked around to see what program you were on/how you were losing weight, but didn't see anything. I learned a lesson this week. If you happen to be following a controlled-carb/glycemic index type diet and veer off carb restriction even one day, it is nearly like starting over. My doc said it and I've read it in a number of locations (including the Atkins book). Could this be explaining any of what is going on?
I spent last week aggravated all to pieces because I had completely stalled on the scale, despite 5 consecutive days worth of workouts and keeping to my plan. Then, when I saw the doc on Friday, he took my journal and highlighted a bunch of stuff that was probably too high in carbs for me to be eating at this point. Even if I stay within my allotted carb value per day (75), I am finding that eating one higher carb item can apparently spike my blood sugar enough that it sends me into a backspin.
Keep the faith...you have made good progress!
