Officially giving up...

It's me again. Sunshine But only cuz I care!

Have you had that super duper sensitive thyroid test.  Cuz sometimes they will come up normal unless you take a special test.  And have you been tested for estrogen dominance.  That will put five pounds on me instantly if I don't take my fluid pill.

I'm still looking, People Watching

Don't just rely on your PCP to do the testing.  Go to an endocrinologist.  I FEEL your frustration.  When I was trying to lose weight, I was eating that f'ing cabbage soup with NOTHING else for DAYS and DAYS and working out like crazy and NOT losing even 1 pound.  I was TOTALLY freaked out about it.  At that point, I had already had my thyroid tested but I had it tested again and it was low - just a bit low but when I started taking the synthroid, 50 pounds came off immediately.  Like in 6 weeks.  In fact, it came off so fast, everyone thought I'd had WLS.

I wish I had that luck with my thyroid meds... but nadda for me.

At any rate, if you suspect thyroid is an issues, please check out stopthethyroidinsanity.com  There is a TON of information about thryoid, adrenal fatigue and cortisol connections.  After being medicated for my thyroid for over 2 years with neglibile weight results, I'm moving onto working on the adrenals now.  Hoping SOMETHING will make losing weight a smidge bit easier.

Lori....I don't know what to say.

It seems like you must have something else going on to have the fluid gains you experience....and that's all they are!  YOU know it's impossible to gain 9 lb of fat in one day!

Your eating is so restrictive and you work out so hard.....I think your body has adapted and is just holding on to every little morsel it can cause it's in fear of utter starvation.  When you do have a touch more of salt the water weight just hangs on for dear life.

You have  lost a freaking 100lb.....don't forget the big (much smaller) picture.  I agree with taking the dang scale out back and putting it out of it's misery.

Stop the bingeing now....Neecee is right...you are worth soooo much more than that.  Have a few cigarettes....doesn't sound like the time to be trying to tackle that too.

I seriously hope you have some insulin in the house....sounds like you may need it before this is over.  And I KNOW you don't want to go back to that way of life.

I am praying for you....and sending BIG hugs.  We all feel your pain and believe in you.

Lori, have you considered http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymphedema?

I was reading another message board and a diabetic experienced much of the same fluctuations like you describe.

Don't give up.  Get back in tow tomorrow...just try to approach this by not being so hard on yourself.  Yes you've busted your arse,  But it doesn't have to feel like that.

I'd love to see you put the scale away, check in on your measurements once a month (you heard me right), and live the calories and intake you should.   No more meat and egg fasts.  Fat, protein, and veggies in that order!

Try a week of maintenance calories, about 2000. Then bring them down only 300 and stop overthinking it.  When you overthink it (and I am guilty of this myself) you get in your own way.  Time to be nice to God's creation--you.

Lori, I apologize. I couldn't go thru with it. This gave me motivation because I do believe, like you, I was giving up and sabotaging myself without really thinking about it. Yeah, I knew I was eating the wrong things but it felt good and it was easy. So tonight I hpped back on my stationary bike at a leisurely pace and rode 5 miles. That's the first time I have sat on it all summer.

Lori, I love you too much to see you give up. One step at a time. Take your binge and then sit back and evaluate the situation. You know what is right and what you need to do. I know doing what is right ALL the time is so damn frustrating you could scream especially when that damn cannoli is sitting in front of you screaming, "EAT ME! EAT ME!" and you want so badly to do as it says that you could shoot yourself. Unlike you, I usually cave.

Cut yourself some slack and understand we all need days when we just don't give a damn. It keeps us from going insane. At least if you gain 10 pounds now, you will know why. Damn water weight is a freaking ass downer, tho. I gained almost 7 pounds worth about a month ago and a week later it was gone. It just makes you want to scream.

Anyway, I'm sorry I can't keep to my end of the bargain and be your partner in self destruction but I know in time, you will come be our partner again in this hellish game of give and take.

Go put a bullet in the f'ing scale! Tell it to take a flying f*** and leave you the hell alone.
Beth

Put your scale away for a while!  Everyone's body weight fluctuates from day to day whether you are trying to lose or not.   A few pounds can be water weight or constipation.    Weight yourself only once every week at the same time of day.   I weight myself on Sunday mornings before I shower.

It's all about healthy substitutions.  If you want spaghetti-- eat the Barilla Plus healthy carb version.   If you want ice cream-- choose a healthier version instead of the full fat kind.

What helps me the MOST is using The Daily Plate to record everything I eat.  I have my calorie intake set for a 3lb loss per week (1600 cal. per day for me).  The good thing about it is that if I have an occasional bad day and go over my calorie intake, I will still be losing weight (maybe two pounds instead of three).

Hang in there!   You can do it!
