New here!
Hi! I'm Chelsea. I'm currently trying to lose weight without surgery, but I'm not going to completly rule it out. I'm giving myself some time. I'm 24, the mother of a 3 year old boy, and I am a nurse. I'm also married, I should add...poor hubby gets left out!
I didn't realise how much my weight was affecting my health until receently. I have high blood pressure, cholesterol, and PCOS. I have been overweight since my son was born in Nov. 2004. I hope to be joining you all in the road to smaller jeans!

Smaller jeans...so that's where this long AZZ road leads. OK, then I guess I'll keep going. But I've been on this road for a long long time and it keeps going and going and going. I guess that's my way of saying that it takes time and commitment, so don't give up if it takes a little more time than you thought it would. But it's definitely a journey worth taking. Your PCOS will make it harder, but it can be done with low carb dieting and exercise. Have you been prescribed anything to treat it?

No...the doctor doesn't want me to get pregnant while I'm this heavy (5'6'', 235lbs), so she won't put me on metformin. In my opinion (I'm a nurse) I think that treating the problem and keeping my pcos under control, and being "careful" in the process, would be better. Metformin is also an appetite supressant.
I'll see what she says at my next check-up. Starting my low-carb diet next week! (Have to get low-carb groceries!) Wish me luck!

I have a severe case of PCOS and gained a hundred pounds in one year. Back then, they didn't even know what it was much less how to treat it.
Once I was diagnosed, I had to beg my doc to put me on metformin...that was when they had just found out that people with PCOS are insulin resistant. I lost forty pounds but it was hard on my stomach and I had to get off of it. But treatment is the most important thing you can do because it will only get worse. Now that I have it under control, exercise and Atkins is what I do to keep it there.
Best wishes,
Mary

Hi Chelsea:
Welcome to the non-op board. You'll find lots of support and fun here on the non-op board. All I know about PCOS is that it makes it REALLY hard to lose weight but Mary has had incredible success!
The road to smaller jeans isn't easy but it's worth it!
