I tried

I've had a rough morning so far. Won't get into it, but will say that I have been hesitating all day if I should post this or not. After much thought I decided maybe posting this is what I need, lol to be humiliated. No, actually I'm extremely embarrassed about this. After only a couple days on the plan I give up. It's just way to hard core for me. It's a total vegan diet, and on top of that he wants you to eat massive amounts of a pound of raw and a pound of cooked veggies and at least four fruits, no salts, one cup of coffee a day, no animal fat or meat, no processed stuff, no nothing but veggies, fruit, beans, and an ounce of nuts a day. I feel pathetic today and miserable that I couldn't make it. But like he said in his book, this diet is definitely not for everyone.

I feel like green goo is coming out of my ears, and my body feels very acid y. I'm sure it would just take time for me to get use to it. But it's just way too much too fast, especially in a house of meat and junk eaters.

I actually was excited last night for a while. I was feeling pretty good after hesitating all day long about it. I went into a forum to ask a question about nalley vegetarian chili (why I was feeling so good...because I ate some nalley). Which is something I love, heck I could do fine if I can have that. Come to find out I got told that it's "outright criminal if I eat that stuff" because of the salt. They are WAY too hard core for me. After struggling for two days trying to stuff myself full of fruits and veggies and constantly looking at his book, I read that most patients will lose a pound a day the first two weeks. I got on my scale this morning out of curiosity and I gained 1.8 pounds just within the past two days. Now I know it's only been two days, but that was just aggravating as all hell after trying so hard for two days. I don't even like veggies that much to begin with! That might be my problem too.

So throw stones at me, tell me whatever, but I can't do it. Between this and my high stress level right now is just WAY too much for me to handle.

I tried.

Now I'm aiming (haven't decided yet of course) more towards Atkins or what Sherrie is doing. Figure if I can't handle this way, maybe the total opposite is in order for me.

Who knows?!?!?!  All I know is I'm tired.

Holly, dont feel bad we all go through these things you will find what works for you, iam trying to find whats best for me to, Iam thinking about that cookie diet real hard but boy it cost, I tried it about 10 years ago and it does work but like always i gain back, iam begining to think it has a lot to do with how we feel day to day stress. My moods are different everyday, wish i could just stick to one thing, and be happy with a diet. So dont beat yourself up we all do things we get mad at ourselves for. You will find what you want to do and stick with it, And hopefuly me to LOL!  Good lLuck. You can do it. Delilah

Holly:
Don't beat yourself up.  Tomorrow is a new day.

My recommendation is that you find something you can do the rest of your life.  Start with small changes and those will eventually add up to big changes.
For instance, when I first decided to do something about my weight, I decided that whenever I ate, I'd eat something with protein first - ALWAYS.  So, if I wanted chips and dip, I'd make myself eat some chicken or some cheese first.  I soon found out that I would eat less chips and dip (or whatever kind of crap I was eating) and that small change eventually turned into larger changes [e.g., eating lean protein w/brown rice and veggies instead of chips and dip (most of the time)] .
Good for you for coming here and laying it out on the line.
You can do it!

Awwe Holly, I wish I were there to give you a big hug!!! Big Hug

Geeze girl, I give you a lot of credit for staying on that torture plan for two whole days.  That thing makes Induction on Atkins look like a walk in the park!

And you said it, a house full of meat and junk.  That has Atkins written all over it.  You eat the meat and it helps get rid of the craving for the junk! Wakka Wakka So I say go with that one where you can cook the meat and vegetable for you and your family and then just make a starchy sumpn' or other for your family to eat.  That's what I do with DH.  Or I cook something like Atkins chile for me and make him hot dogs with just a little of my chile on them.  He'd pig it all if I'd let him!

You'll get it all figured out sooner or later Sweetie, just don't give up trying.

You feel pathetic about..????  Um.....  not torturing yourself?  OH Holly..  what we do we have to do for life and that doesn't sound very reasonable at all.  At this point you can say "I tried it, and it's not for me".  That's as far as that goes....  done.

Do you have any idea how many times I tried so called "reasonable" diets.... a LOT less stringent than THAT one, and there was no way I could hang on?  Let's see.. I've run out of fingers and toes countin' 'em all!  The "atta girl" you get is for giving it a shot.  You'll never know what works for you unless you give it a try and girlie, that takes a LOT of guts!!!  (and judging by that menu, you are one BRAVE ASS WOMAN)!!  lemme tell ya..

Let today go.. let it gooooooo.. it's over and so are those raw veggies.. they're just not for everyone (certainly not for me... I'll take mine cooked with garlic and oregano). I'm a little jealous of the fruit though....  (I've been covering my eyes as I walk past the red pears in the supermarket0 .. lol

Maybe you can work with what's already in the house....  just a variation of what everyone else in the house eats.  It's a little arduous at times, but it's so worth it once ya get in the swing.  For instance:  Let's say I'm making chicken.  Jessi and Danny has theirs oven fried in breading with no skin... Jon and I have ours roasted with the skin and spiced instead of breaded.  They get the veggies they like, and while I'm on the stove I make the ones that Jon and I can have.  LOL  It got a little crazy sometimes (especially when making only 1/2 of the london broil marinated), but it was worth the extra effort.  Is there a way you can work around your own diet when feeding the troops?  (Just a suggestion).....

Well.. whatever it is you choose to do, in the end it's going to be a "fit" for YOU and your lifestyle.  You haven't given up... just taking a different tact is all..  :)

Sleep it off..... start fresh in the morning..  Lord only knows what ideas you'll get when you're asleep!!  :)

Holly...gone all day and hadn't read your post when I read your email.  I didn't realize things were so bad when I replied.

I think Kim is right....you have to find a lifestyle choice....something that you can stick with ongoing cause let's face it....we can't just do a diet or plan or whatever you want to call it, lose the weight and then go back to our old habits.  Been there, done that....both of us.

Don't beat yourself up...only adds to the stress.  Relax and just make some healthy choices for a while.  Don't be all concerned about a "plan" at all.  Maybe you just set yourself up for failure with something that's too restrictive or hard to follow....and that just adds to the negative thoughts that we will never do this.   Give yourself a break, girl.....take a deep breath and RELAX!

Nobody's gonna throw stones....from this group?  We're all in this glass house together....LOL

Hugs....Sherrie

as somebody who's had to adapt to very restrictive diets (my daughters allergy list of foods used to be 8 items long)  I give you credit for lasting that long.   I remember standing in the store in tears, numerous times... just trying to find something that my child could eat.   We basically adapted our diets to hers, as to not cross contaminate her.  If her life wasn't at risk, I never would have made it!!

That particular plan sounds INSANE!   It sounds almost brutally equal to the caloric restriction diet (where folks only eat like 800 calories a day... FOREVER)

I agree it's about finding that something that you can live forever with.   I just wish I'd find that "something" and stop falling back on REALLY bad habits.   But I *am* a work in progress!

You'll find what works for you!

Thanks everyone.  Think I really needed your approval for ditching that plan.  Why?  LOL, I have no clue!  Sort of weird eh, I've never even met any of you.  Guess it's because I yo yo on diets so much.  Sort of hard facing everyone, even on here after saying I'm going to do something and then don't.  Of course I'm my hardest verdict, think that's what it boils down too.  I even had to tell my husband on the phone other wise I would have cried.  I"m very emotional today!  I warned him about that too on the phone before he came home.hehe  He said thanks for the warning.haha :)  Lots of things goin' on at home..so all this was just the icing on the cake I think.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the ideas and emails.

Jigglin--(sorry if I killed your name..can't remember what it was!)  Did I read you live in Alaska??  There are two of us on this board that are Alaskans, so if you are...you make three! :)  What part of Alaska ??

I AM :)

I live in Wasilla.    Spent 30 years in Fairbanks, and hubby got transferred down here almost 4 years ago.  I'm still getting used to it here (missing Fairbanks summers) and pretty sick of the rain.... but it is what it is :)

Who else is from AK?   How exciting!

Aw c'mon, Hol...how can any of us throw even a pebble. You get kudos and respect for at least researching and trying to do something.

You did not "fail"...you may be guilty of choosing a lifestyle/woe that just is not going to mesh with your life. Not to say that learning a new woe and exercise does not have its uncomfort zone!

We loves you Baby! Keep trying...every one of us have had oh so many false stops & starts. We would not be here would we if we were not that way????
