Hello, I'm new OH, my name is Brandy. I'm hoping to find some new friends on here. I've been looking into the wls and stumble upon this board. This is the place i need to be right now, cause i'm trying to lose this weight and BOY am i having a hard time. I keep telling myself that i'm gonna start tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. I wake up and first thing i get is a coke. I'm so disappointed in myself that i can't climb up on that horse. Has anyone else experienced this. I have everything i need to start the atkins but just the thought of eating veggies just makes my stomach jump up into my throat.  I love meats i don't have problems with eating that, but i just can't eat meat only. So i'm gonna have to suffer and maybe one day i'll grow to love them. I look at my kids and think to myself i have to do this they need me, I want to watch them grow up, i don't want to miss a thing, and at the way i'm going i'm not gonna be able to. I've got to do something now. I'm trying to get my husband on a diet too, both of his parents died from heartattacks at a young age, in their early 60's. My husbands eats worse then what his parents ate, so i think their heart problems might have been genetics because they never ate fried foods, fast foods, they grew their own veggies, the ate more veggies then anything else, i hardly ever saw them eat anything fried. Now my husband, everything has to be fried, and boy does he go thru a lofe of bread in one day. I'm more scared for him then me, i hate bread, the atkins would work for me cause i don't hardly ever eat bread, sugar, flour or sweets but boy i am a coke addict, i love my coke and mountain dew, but i wont turn down fast foods either. My husband has to have fastfood everyday, me i don't have the money to buy it everyday for me, but when i do get it i don't turn it down.
I just had my third baby one year ago aug, 1. I can't believe she's 1 already, and into everything. My other 2 are 8 and 6, i have 2 girls and 1 boy, the love of my life. I've let my self go to take care of them, i don't hardly stop to think about what i need, what's good for me, i feel real guilty when i do. I'm hoping i can find some buddies on here who will help me stay on track, and kick my butt when i do wrong pick me back up and place me right back on that horse. I'm hoping that wont happen to often.

Welcome Brandy!

This is definately the place to be. There are a lot of great people on this board, and everyone seems to be doing their own thing, their own way of eating. There are a few on Atkins also, so you should fit right in.  We all have experimented to find the right plan for us, so good luck!

Your gonna have to get tough with yourself with that cake and mountain dew issue. Refuse to have it in your house if you have too. Anything to get it out of sight. As for not liking veggies, I actually read something last night that made sense to me. It said something like "the ones who hate vegetables are the ones that hardly ever eat them". I'm actually a firm believer on this one. I use to HATE fruits AND hardly any veggies. Now I'm eating two kinds of veggies at every dinner, and no starches. As for fruit, I'm finding that I'm having a HARD time sticking to any plan that will not let me have my fruit. It's almost like you have to "cleanse" yourself from eating bad for a while and actually eat wholesome foods to wake up your taste buds. I know it sounds sort of weird, but it has actually worked for me. I was brought up eating no fruit at all and only a salad for dinner.

Hope that made sense to you...I'm working on three hours of sleep last night...not sure if I'm going to make much sense at all today. :)

Hang tough!!

Hi Brandy:

My name is Lori and I'm addicted to coke!  I say this present time not because I drink it, but because I know I'm addicted to it.

When you do your induction, you'll notice that a few days into it you stop craving carbs and start feeling more energetic.  Yes, I had to give up coke (ppppppppst but I still drink it).... After many month of my diet I got all cokeheaded and Neecee turned me on to Coke Zero.  In fact, I get Cherry Coke Zero and girl... it's fantastic.

As far as veggies.. DISGUISE THEM and there will be no suffering.  There's  a big list of induction veggies so just get creative with 'em.  I get broccoli in Jon (who HATES broccoli) by steaming it soft in butter and sprinkling romano cheese on it.  Well.. you get the idea.

I throw zuchinni, onions, tomatoes, yellow squash in a pan with olive oil, garlic (fresh and powder), oregano, basil and parsley and let it cook down....... sprinkle with mozarella....  it's pretty darned good!

Anyway.. if you need any ideas or support... we're here!

YOU GO GIRL.. you CAN do this!!!!!

Thank you guys so much for sharing your advice with me, I'm gonna have to try that coke zero, i've heard it taste just like regular coke. I'm also gonna try to cook my veggies differently. I'm gonna keep a daily journal of what i eat on my profile and post it on here. Any more advice would be appriatated (did i spell that right). I could use every advice out there.

Hi Brenda...Welcome!

Glad to see you're doing something about this weight at a young age.  I'm 61 and have been struggling with it all my life....believe me, it doesn't get any easier the older you get.

You will see that a few of us regularly post our daily meals on here..."What did you eat today".  Please feel free to join in the fun.  It's interesting to see what other people are doing.

STEP AWAY FROM THE COKE (lol) and find yourself some Coke Zero....good way to start.

Good luck to you!

Okay, i went to the store tonight and bought me some things i need for in the morning so i can get started on the right track, I have no soda's in the house they are all gone. I don't drink tea, so i'll fix that for my dh he really loves tea, so that is what i'll fix for him and i bought me some crystal light for me. I have nothing in the pantry for me to snack on that i like to eat anyway, i have my kids snacks but i don't eat the stuff they eat, so that's cool for me. I did buy me some protein drinks for a snack in between meals for a snack. I have lots of water on hand for me to drink. I figured i'll lose like 5 to 6 lbs of water the first week, i do feel like i'm swollen some, i really feel it in the morning. Okay so i'll let ya'll know what i eat tomorrow and what i did to make myself feel proud of. Everyone have a goodnight.

Brandy, Just make the decision to start and stick with it. The hardest part is committing. Write down your goals, not just weight loss, but other things you want to accompli**** really makes a difference to see what you want for your life when it's written down.

I used to start and stop diets. Then I litterally had a long hard talk with myself (yes, I looked in the mirror and talked to myself.) I knew that if I kept going and doing the same things regarding food, I would only get worse and I would end up unemployed and bed-ridden. I made a promise to myself and I kept it. That was 2.5 years and 181 lbs. ago.

You CAN do this! You just have to BELIEVE you can do this!!!
Good luck to you!

edit: Ok, apparently I can't post the word a c c o m p l i s h.

I lost my weight with Weight Watcher's & Zumba. I've lost 302 lbs. You can visit my weight loss website at www.freewebs.com/infectiouslaughter
I'll be in the Jan. 2012 issue of People Magazine's "Half Their Weight" issue!!
