Hi there. Introducing myself.
I am trying a lower carb new way of eating. I started this new way of eating on July 15th. I've lost 8.5lbs. However, I weighed this AM and have gained back 3lbs. I started working out at our local gym about 2 weeks ago. I'm hoping it's due exercising. I feel awesome, so I'm not too worried.
I started out at 293.5 and as of my last official weigh in (last Tuesday) I am down to 285. I weigh in tomorrow officially, so we will see how that goes.
My gym workout consist of using the Ellipitcal for approx 25 minutes does reg and fast intervals, recumbent bike for approx 20 mins doing intervals on random setting, and then working out with weights every other day.
Anyone else have some of the same stats?
Well, have a wonderful day!

Welcome, nursebecca_82!!
Thanks for the well wishes!!
You're aliitle farther along in your exercise routine than I am!! It sounds like you're doing terrific!! I'm just learning to walk on forearm crutches. I got a free exercise bike from freecycle.com and as soon as I figure out how to strap my heels so they don't knock the metal part of the pedal every time around, I'll be pedaling my way to ONEderland.
Best of luck to you and I hope to read more posts from you, soon!!
A very COSMIC Kelly

Good for you and welcome! And to you too, CosmicKelly (of the long winded posts - LOL!)
I firmly beleive in low carbing for most older and certainly most overweight peeps. In most cases, the longer you have been overweight, the less efficient your body is at processing grains. I can only eat about 1-3 servings - small servings- of grains daily to lose.
I am an exercise nut so, in that way I am not like you. I have a newsflash: food intake is MUCH more important. Exercise is important, but truly it's 80-90% about how much/what types of food you eat.
My weight was at 230 ish at my highest, so I am a lite weight - LOL....about the only place I am called THAT is here.
For you, you should lose lots more consistently compared to me. I am at my final 20-30#, and it is a slow boat. I am stuck at 185 ish right now - irritating.
Stick around!

Welcome Becca and Kelly!
Exercise is the bane of my existence....doing water aerobics now as bad arthritis in my knees.
I started out at 295 4/07 and lost about (played around with is a better term) 30lb with WW for over a year....up and down, up and down. I think I gained and lost the same 10lb forever. Now doing Wendy Chant's Crack the fat loss code (carb cycling) and doing well. The jury's still out cause I'm only on week 2 of 8.
Nice bunch of people here....very supportive and we're glad to have you both join us.

Hi gals. I, too, am on a lower carb diet. I have days when I mess around and don't stay on track but overall, I am happy with my results. I have lost 57 pounds since January 26th, 2008. I started at 373# so it's been fairly easy so far but it continues to get tougher the lower I go. Thing is don't give up. Slow loss is better than no loss.
As far as exercise goes for me, I worked up to 11 miles a day on my stationary bike and I was real good about doing it daily but honestly, I haven't rode it in about 2 months now. I totally think this has affected how fast I am losing. I need to get on the ball again and get moving.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

Hi Becca!
I'm doing low carb too. I'm down about 120 lbs from my worst weight. Right now I'm at about 210. I started trying to lose weight in July of last year. I was about 315 and started NutriSystem. I gained another 15 lbs while on NutriSystem. Went to low carb on October 1, 2007.
I just wanted to mention that I had a fluid gain around the 3rd week when I started and I go back and forth with it. I attribute this to several factors now, but then, none of these other factors were a consideration. I had lost 15 lbs, then gained 5 back during the 3rd week.
It was explained to me like this:
Low carb goes right for the fat in your cells and shrinks them. At this point you see the weight loss. At some point your body senses the void in the cells and fills them with fluid until your body adjusts......... then you go through a woosh (mine was about 2 days in the bathroom) and it comes back off. Don't be discouraged by this - it's par to course with low carb from what I understand.
Your exercise is killer compared to what I was doing at the beginning. LOL Killer doesn't even describe it! I couldn't hardly walk! Now I do about 2 hours a day of cardio and weight train with a trainer 3 days and do some light weight training on alternate days
Keep your eye on the prize, girl! You're off to a great start!
