One year, half way mark
So, I went to a dietician per my trainer's direction. I had a bodyfat scan on a DEXA machine (highly accurate). One thing that came in the final report? My lean body mass.
I have 207lbs of lean body mass.
HOLY $!
I thought it was about 150. 207lbs of muscle???? I just can't believe it. I mean, I knew I was muscular, but HOLY SH
That means I'm also closer to my goal of fitness than I realized.
207lbs of my 265 is muscle. WTF! Shocking!

Jerserygirl,
That's awesome! So are you going to adjust your goal to have a certain amount of body fat? I have been having a problem with determining my "goal weight". Honestly, I think what the BMI charts show as normal for me are just too low. I weighed 115 in the 4th grade and looked perfectly normal and somehow I don't think I'll get back down to that weight at 24 years old So I thought maybe I should go more off my body fat percentage. I read somewhere where you should have 20%-25% body fat (for women) - do you think that is accurate? I know we have to have a certain amount just to function. Do you think people should determine their goal weight by body fat percentages or BMI charts? I just don't think BMI charts take people with more muscle into consideration.
207 lbs of muscle - That's crazy!!

Yeah, I've had to adjust my perspective on my goal weight. I originally thought 140-160, then upped it to 180, and now it's between 180 and 210. But another nutritionist has suggested I focus instead on a goal bodyfat percentage of less than 30% and whatever weight that results in. 30% and under will be "healthy". 18-22% would be athletic and optimal.... And bodyfat is not BMI, totally different numbers. I can' t pay attention to BMI as it doesn't account for muscular people. A weight lifter for instance could be classified as obese when s/he's not.
Oh, and I stand corrected, 207lbs of lean body mass isn't just muscle (but mostly). It is bones and organs. But the determination was that I only have approx. 60lbs of fat on me. Mentally, I saw myself has more overweight then that.

wOOt! That is encouraging.
This is important to realize about bmi, it does not fairly represent muscular types!
Weight is also relative. I think we need to find a weight that seems reasonable for each of us, where we can move & groove, wear clothes that make us feel good, and of course, keep physical risks to a minimum.
Good work!
