Newbie....

I am new to this site but certainly not to the battle of obesity. Right now I am coming to a serious realization (not just that random man I am getting fatter I need to do something) I am talking the REALization.....I am very unhealthy, unhappy, depressed....all of those wonderful things that go hand in hand with obesity. About a year ago I went through a separation from my husband (too long to get into right now) it caused a ton of heartbreak, I lost like 50 lbs soley due to starvation/depression. Once I started moving on....I felt amazing about my body and the weight I had lost....wellll....needless to say when you start eating again and get happy, make the wrong choices all of that weight comes back!!
Right now I am holding at around 230somethin....I am 5'2....so my BMI is 42. I would prefer to lose the weight and become a much healthier me without WLS....it's an option. I just feel like I have it in me to do it without WLS. I tried Adipex before I got pregnant with my daughter (she's almost 2) I did pretty well with it.....I have an appointment to see about getting back on something to assist me in my journey. Over the past couple of weeks I've been changing what I eat, how much I eat and when I eat....I am also walking everyday, or visiting the gym at work(yes, we have a free gym at my company....how awesome is that??)
My best friend had WLS/Sleeve back in December and she has lost an amazing amount of weight and she suggested I check out this site. I am just looking for others like myself.....to make friends, support....
Welcome and congratulations on beginning your commitment to a healthier you! You will find tons of support, suggestions, motivation, you name it on this board. You can check out my profile and see what happened with my own battle of "Should I or should I not have WLS?" It's a personal decision but I think everyone would agree that WLS is a last resort. I started out with a BMI of 44.5 but I'm down to 39 now from doing Weigh****chers. From the changes that you have already made (portions and exercise) it looks like you are on the right path. Good luck to whatever you decide to do!

I'm 45 .. started at like 311, went up to 325, and I'm down to 216 right now without surgery. It can be done and there are lots of folks here to prove that. I'm not saying that surgery is a bad thing, it's just a personal thing... everyone knows when they've hit the end of their rope.
There's a wealth of information and support here..
We all seem to be in different boats, but we're all rowing in the same direction! LOL
I've gone with very low carb.. similar to Atkins (I think Atkins is probably a tad healthier than what I've been doing), and there are WW folks here and South Beach.. lots of exercise going on and PLENTY OF WATER!
Have you made any decisions about a plan?
Good Luck!!
Lori
In March of 2006, I looked into WLS and finding this site was my consolation prize after I was rejected for lapband. I am giving it my best shot. i have lost 40# after ballooning back up to 226! Working hard to not take my eyes off my food plan.
Lucky for YOU you are getting a big clue to do it right at this tender age. You shuld have good luck once you find what direction to get started in. Being young helps!
Hey stick around. Lots of smart people here. Sometimes we whine, but once in a while, someone says really cool stuff!
We have all been on those ups and downs..so we know how it feels..You can do this!! You keep going to that gym and working out..and watching what you eat like you already are and you are going to start seeing a change..don't give up!! When you feel down..get on here and post a bulletin..these people on here are like angels...they will lift you back up when you are down!! And so many on here have such good advice! So welcome to the board..You can do it on your own!! I have faith in you :) we are all in this together!
Through my education regarding RNY I learned so much about nutrition that I've decided to try and do 'some of this' on my own. I weighed 206 2 weeks ago a nd don't know what I weigh now because the lovely scale I bought goes anywhere from 197 to 212 LOL!! I actually like my doctors scale better than mine because it seems low to me (and that was the same dreaded scale I complained about time after time).......I'm walking every day, bought a bike (only fell once so far) and am going to the gym this week to start on some strength training. I figured if I could lose 10 lbs, I could lost another and then another without having to go to such extremes. Fortunately I don't have any serious health problems that would make me change my mind.
I am looking forward to going through this with the people on this board too!!
Good Luck to all of us :))
Sue
Welcome, Jackie
I imagine everyone here can empathize with your story. It's so helpful to have a support system in this fight.
You may find you're able to find a sensible eating and fitness plan that works for you. I certainly hope you do. If not, there's also support in other forums. I know for me, I've tried to lose and maintain a healthy weight for 30 years. Everything works...at first. But my GI doctor suggested I was a good candidate for weight loss surgery. I put off reseraching it for a while because RNY seemed so drastic and has lifelong restrictions.
It was by chance that I stumbled onto the DS (duodenal switch) forum. What an eye-opener. It's still major surgery and it's still a lifetime commitment but life afterwards is nearly normal. If you find you can't get a program that works for you -- and I hope you do -- you might want to check out the forum. Good luck to you.
