what is the best pill that causes weight loss as a side effect?
Hello,
I can help on this. :) I have been taking a prescription diet pill since the end of December. Within 6 months I was down 66 pounds! Yup! The first month I lost 24 pounds alone. I love the pill. :) It is called Phentermine. Look it up google it. I take the 30mg release capsules. I recommend them if the doctor will prescribe them. It is a generic of Adipex. Good luck!!!
I suggest going to a bariatric doctor in town - and do discuss this with your doc! That is how I handled it. My regular doc did some baseline testing of my heart and was releived that the bariatric office would monitor my bp, do the weigh ins, etc.
I take a varation of phentermine - phendimetrazine, 35mg - and 1/4 pill was enough for me in the beginning. It does not make my heart race, though definitely it peps me up. I cannot take it too close to bedtime, which sucks, because supper is my roughest meal. 5:30 pm on a work night is as late as I dare.
But I like it to learn new habits - eating small hi protein/moderate fat mini meals all day long. That did budge that scale, which had long ago stopped no matter what I did.
i also hear that wellbutrin, the anti anxiety pill will cause weight loss = if you have depression issues.
Thank you all, I don't want to lose 66 pds I would not get insurance approval then. It is messed up. I have to lose some weight( be sucessfull) for the surgeon (or so I read from RNY Board) but I have to fail for medicare. It is messed up. I did try to follow the diet my doc gave me but I weigh 256 pounds and she put me on a 1600 calorie diet. I can't follow it. I get too hungry. I am bipolar so maybe the Wellbutren is best. If that doesn't work I will try the Phentermine. Neecee (love that name) do you take phentermine and phendimetrazine or is it same drug different name?
About 3 months before I had my lapband surgery way back when, my doctor put me on Topomax -- which is usually used for those who suffer from seizures or migraine headaches. He said it would have the positive side effect of losing some weight. I lost 23 lbs in the 3 months prior to my surgery. It basically made me have no appetite. I would go somewhere and nothing really sounded good to me. i had no cravings and I just wasn't in the mood to eat -- EVER -- I had to make myself.
So what's the bad part? Well, if you take more than about 100-150 mg you do get some tingling in your appendages (fingers and feet mostly) which can be a minor annoyance...other than that....it only works for a while. I tried to take it again probably a year ago and it didn't have the same effect at all. It really didn't do much but constipate me.
So...there's my answer on this.....
Lost 30 lbs 11/6/07 - 12/12/07 w/o it.
Lost 101 lbs 12/13/07 - today.
I've followed the same 1000-1200 calorie/day diet for all of this, it's just easier with the help. Still takes a lot of will power to not eat - have a headache now from letting my bloodsugar get too low this afternoon. I need a 3pm snack.
Started this diet as preop for bypass; now I'm 20 lbs from goal.
