I have to do a year long medically supervised diet.  Anyone else doing a mandatory diet to gain approval for weight-loss surgery? If so, what type of diet is it? Thanks, Sheryl

I'm sorry I have no knowledge for you, I just wanted to say that I hope you have a very fruitful and productive year and that you learn what's important to you as you start your weight loss journey.  You're going to find that it's so much more about eating, it's about what's in your heart and mind. Best wishes, Mary

Hi! I just started my 6 month supervised diet for WLS on June 20th. My first appt we just talked about 3 things I need to start 1. Take a daily vitamin, calcium, omega 3 pill daily. 2.Learn to read labels, make better food choices, be aware of everything I eat 3. keep a journal, set some personal goals ex. exercise 15 min a day, eliminate soda, and such. Next appt we talk specifically about my personalized diet plan. Calorie intake, carb consumption..etc. So I am not sure exactly what my diet plan will be. I can let you know after my appt on the 18th.  Lisa

Thanks.  I'd love to hear about it.  Are you going to your pcp or to your surgeons office? I love your signature. -Sheryl

My insurance requires my diet to ne followed by a registered licensed nutritionist so I got a referral from my PCP. I will let you know what plan she has me follow though!

This is one thing I don't understand why if we are looking into WLS do the insurance companies make  use do a medically supervised diet,  If we could follow a diet, do exercise and keep the weight off why would we be looking into WLS in the first place.  Seems to me to be just a way of making us jump through hoops. However I wish you both a lot of luck in your diet plans.  Who knows maybe you will not even need the surgery when you are done.  In my case I had so much to lose in the first place  that the weight I did drop following WW and NS over the past 3 years doesn't even seem to show, at least to me anyhow.
