Just need to vent....(long)
May I recommend a book for you? I really got a very good understanding of diabetes with the book 'Diabetes for Dummies'. Another book to read if you are even considering WLS is 'WLS for Dummies'. Okay so I am a dummy book fan but really it does explain the different meds you can take to assist with controlling your sugar levels.
For me metformin actually was a godsend. I lost enough weight to get off of it but I attribute the weight loss with taking it along with exercise. I took the extended release version of it and it really helped. I never had the stomach upset but I have been on acid reducers forever so that may be why. I did need to eat right away when I took it and I drink a lot of water all day long. Now that my sugars are somewhat stable I am not taking it anymore but I haven't lost anymore weight. I really have to work at staying stable weight wise and not gain. But loosing seems to be tabled for now. WLS will get it going again. I will have to follow a pre-op diet for two weeks that most likely will cause a few more pounds to go and then the surgery rules will take over for the next year or so and then the rest of my life. But the trade off will be worth it for me. I hope some of this is helpful for you.
