the leptin diet
It's hard..and I get it why you would not like to eat small meals. Overall, I think that most of us have to get our heads wrapped around eating a moderate amount of calories, like 1600 ish, less to lose on, but not so low that we do not get what our bodies need. Eating between meals, no matter what you call it, makes it hard to manage the overall cals consumed.
It works for me, of course, because i find that I don't eat too much at meals when my hunger is never allowed to get too big.
I also do think there is something to stoking our metabolisms all day long. It helped my scale to begin to decrease again.
It's very complex. I do of course, experience hunger many days. I try hard to look those episodes over by mentally checking for what I have eaten so far that day. Lots of times, especially during my work week, i do go too long with not much in my stomach. Typically I eat a little something, but many times I wait it out and it does go away.
I am learning to be a little comfortable with some amount of hunger, which I find that most people cannot stand, i know I could not tolerate it well. Certainly, I, for one am not starving...it is hard to differentiate between true hunger and just fiending for something.

I haven't heard of leptin but when I heard the WLS surgeons talk they quoted new studies about gherlin and RNY supposedly would really reduce the gherlin and hunger by taking the majority of the stomach out of commission. But I've seen several WLS folks on this site complain about being hungry so it must not work that way for everyone.
I developed a voracious hungry last winter and gain 25 lbs in just a couple of months. I took a long look at what I was and wasn't doing and realized that I had run out of my l-phenyalanine (amino acid) supplement. I started taking it again and the nawing hunger went away. Now I'm doing pretty well with high protein / low carb meals and snacks and have lost 17 lbs with out having to keep a journal like I hated on WW!

ya haha, work out 3 hours a day, i couldn't do 3 MINUTES...
Truemans Mom can you tell me about that amino acid? was it for a certain condition or will it take away hunger for everyone?
I think I have pretty much given up on diets, since i only go off and gain even MORE weight.. it's just that i would like to find a way to eat to stabilize me around 200 lbs..

Actually, a nut that thought I had post traumatic stress in my history suggested it. I don't know that having a rage-aholic step-father counts compared to what a lot of folks have gone through. But I tried it. It can't hurt and I really do see it helps my appetite. I could not begin to explain how. Amino Acids are a mystery to me. I just know we need them and if something in our body is shut down and we don't make them it can help to take a supplement.
I buy it here in Washington state from Super Suplements (supersup.com) The brand I have had the best results is solaray and I don't spend the extra couple of dollars to get the DL version. L-phenylalanine works for me.
