here's an amazon link on one of the books: http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Leptin-Solving-Obesity-Preventing/dp/0972712119 actually I heard about it from a medical tourism guy, while trying to get weight loss surgery lol... he recommended that if hunger was my biggest prob I should try that diet. read the reviews that people say, there's a book that has recipes that they recommend too.. just for the recipes.

i dunno...it looks kinda like a fad-y type book. i am generally suspicious when nearly every sentence on the back cover ends with an exclamation point. and their editorial reviews are from Marriage Magazine and a radio station. if this book was scientifically reputable, it would have some stronger reviewers. and if there was something amazing that we knew for sure about leptin, we would all know about it. and some of the claims just seem like a stretch - i have never heard anything about leptin having any relationship with cortex development or ADHD. and i'm not sure what exactly a "weak cerebellum" is. there is a ton of research going on right now with leptin and a number of other hormones and chemicals that are intimately related to metabolism and weight - but honestly, at this point, there is just SO MUCH that we don't know.  seems sketchy to me. if you go to his website, its all about selling suplements called "thyroid helper" and "leptislim."  i don't like when authors make blanket statements like "Snacking turns out to be one of the most harmful eating habits. Those individuals who make a habit of eating late at night are on a fast track to accelerated aging, poor sleep, and poor health." i would suggest that you use your cash to set up a meeting with a nutritionist to get an individualized plan that will work for you. there are no quick fixes and the best non-diet diet is one you can stick with in the long run.

yeah i don't trust 'doctor diets', that's why i've never gone to a nutritionist.. My mother used to go to them when she started inexplicably gaining weight, and they just accused her of cheating when she didn't lose weight. I didn't want to subject myself to that. I mean what can a nutritionist know about me that I don't know about myself? do they do blood tests that other doctors don't do? How would I say that I've been on so many torturous diets that I can't limit my eating anymore without much psychological pain? Then she will proceed to tell me how to limit my eating? i might as well save my money. anyway, just wanted to know if anybody had tried that diet. I probably won't, as it means limiting carbs and processed food.

Nutritionists can teach you about how your body reacts to certain foods. They can put you on a healthy balanced eating plan that will control your hunger and reduce those urges. I see a nutritionist monthly. I've learned a lot from her but she's not perfect and doesn't know everything. For me, she's my accountability partner.  I weigh in once a month with her, get encouragement, instruction and what not.  Sure I could do it by myself.  There's something about getting up and going to see someone each month that sord've drives you to succeed.

Medical docs often don't have a lot of nutrition training. Mine has a big interest in it and he tries to keep up. Bariatric surgeons and doctors have a completely differentt angle than traditional PCP's have; they are gaining street cred as specialists.  WLS Surgeons are not exactly nutrition experts: Surgery limits the space available for food and only initially works in the honeymoon period where you are counseled to eat high density foods like meats, fats.  After that, we are back where we started..having access and room in our stretched out pouches to eat it all again.

Like Kriz says, nuts may not know it all but two heads are better than one.  S/he will have some perspective and scientific back up to what you are eating.  It's your job to try it and report back. Some of us have bodies that don't play well with what is expected.

No, but it seems like I read about it. If you struggle with hunger issues, try eating regular, small "meals" every couple hours. And, i will say, try Atkins - it is amazing for controlling hunger. High fat, high pprotein foods, basically. After you do induction, you can slowly work in a few things like berries, some few types of grains like barley, brown rice, etc.  I don't know how much "white" foods you are currently eating (high sugar items like slushees, desserts, sodas, and  breads, rice, cereals, etc), but if you are stop right now to detox and replace with high fiber items and very low to no sugar added items.  I am intrigued by the whole leptin & gherlin (sic?) thing, though.  That is a fairly new announcement about human hunger. I know that it has been theorized that some people have abnormal lelvels and this may be why some people eat more food, or may be related to why some get fat eating the same foods in the same portions that others eat!

I don't lose weight on atkins. right now I'm pretty much eating whatever my body asks for. whi*****ludes white carbs etc. and never, ever, ever, again will i eat small meals every two or three hours, as THAT'S what gave me my hunger problem in the first place.. it was a very torturous way of eating for me after a year or so on it.. i had to go off.. and i've been fighting with the hunger ever since.. the diet i was on, was the six week body makeover by provida, and tho i lost weight, i never gained it all back plus more SO FAST, after I went off of it.
